[on the topic of Masons]
It is a fraternity for men. They help different charities. At the basic level they do a lot of good and help each other out when one of their own is in need. At the higher levels they may be Satanic warlocks who control the world via the international banking system. I guess that about sums it up in a nutshell for you.

I want to say CTSTDT, but it has just enough God for me to want to include it here too.
In the meantime, the mythos surrounding the freemasons is some insane stuff. Unfortunately for them, they're no match for the UFOs or the Discordian Society.
From later in that thread:
"When we were looking for a place to have our wedding reception, we visited the local Mason Lodge. They had a nice and large facility.
When we went to check it out, we walked in, and with in two minutes my (now) wife was runnning out. She said her skin was crawling, and her hair stood up, and she was never going in there. She mumble something about a bad mojo...
So we moved on.... I have no personal comment on the subject, just thought that was interesting."
That was probably when she found out the reception would have to be alcohol free.
Seriously, if you want to criticize the Masons for being exclusionary, elitist, sexist, and homophobic, go ahead. But Satanic warlocks ? I'm not sure whether you need your dosage raised or lowered, but right now it's not working .
Wow...
Are we sure that autumnleaf isn't really John Stewart pulling a Poe?
Seriously, this sounds exactly like something from the Daily Show.
Lemme see if I can get this straight:
An organization run by satanic warlocks that helps people and charities.
Well, here's to satanic warlocks, then!
Um, no. It's a frat for grown-ups that makes you do all kinds of crazy shit to get to the cooler levels. And wear creepy outfits on occasion.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you could have a wedding in a lodge that you weren't a member of.
Xotan
You mean George W Bush, hi dad, VP Cheney etc are all in it?
No, those people are Young Republicans, a secret society dedicated to accumulating influence and lucre by fair means or foul.
While I'll admit that warlocks can be incredibly effective in player-vs.-player combat, they are limited by their ability to only summon and control ONE demon at a time.
Plus, they can only wear cloth armor -- a rogue, warrior, or hunter can tear through cloth like there's no tomorrow.
I may be reading too much into this, but I'm seeing this quote as snark. There are lots and lots of crazy people who do truly believe the masons are associated with Illuminati stuff. (see here ) I definitely can see someone who knows that saying this bit tongue-in-cheek, especially with the phrase "may be" (real loons are nothing if not emphatic).
Dead-on accurate, until "At the higher levels...", at which point it began spiralling uncontrollably down into the very depths of crazy.
Not_You:
Actually, a lot of lodges have eased their restrictions (mostly to ease the crazy-ass rumours like Autumnleaf's spreading). There's one near Oklahoma City that allows public weddings, gives free tours, and even lets visitors sit on the 600-year-old furniture.
I think he was being sarcastic, like one time when I was on the DC Metro, which passed by the Masonic Washington Monument in Northern Virginia. I remarked on it, and another rider asked who the Masons are.
I said, "they're either a group of old men who like to dress up funny, or they secretly rule the world. No one is sure."
The Shriners (American 'Serious Business' Masons) have huge fundraisers specifically for children's charities; they're famous for their children's hospitals.
They wear funny hats, do they count?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
