When is hollywood going to learn we don't want liberal pc feminist bullshit? Every single movie out there right now is liberal and feminist in some way exceor for Dunkirk which happened to be the most successful movie. Its like they litterally don't care about making money anymore all they want to do is bombard us with liberal feminist propoganda. When is this going to stop?

The movies with the "Liberal Feminist Bullshit" are big moneymakers and the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS LOVE THEM....EVEN EPISODE VIII OF STAR WARS (We know about that little rig-fest you had with Rotten Tomatoes, bub).

Even Big Business knows there's big bucks to be made with Progressivism! Many are taking a pro-Woman/LGBTAQ/Non-White/etc. stance because IT'S GOOD BUSINESS and may or may not genuinely hold those views.

Well; I agree that some things were pretty WTF....like the thing with Snoke but the other weird, freaky choices are actually reasonable when you think about them....

STUFF FANS GET MAD ABOUT....
* Rey's parents are nobodies....drunken schlubs who sold her for booze money....not Kenobis, Skywalkers, Palpatines, etc. She's basically the offspring of Jerry Springer guests.
* Snoke is not Plagueus or a resurrected Palpatine or anything and is quickly killed by Kylo in the middle of the second movie rather than at the end of the third like a Big Bad should....making the sympathetic, troubled, gothy emo kid the New Big Bad.
* The F.O. is actually inept, run by dorks and the "Big Awesome Cruel Young General Bigshot and Master Tactician" is really a whiny, shrieking, impulsive little toad that everybody of all ranks hates.
* Reylos (me included) got their Reylo....but it hasn't led to Ben Solo's redemption and he's dug his heels more into Big Bad-ism (perhaps redemption will be in the next movie, even then, it's up in the air).
* General Leia! Faster than a flying dirigible! More powerful than Jabba's appetite! Able to survive the vacuum of space after a single blast! It's a Porg! It's an X-Wing! No! It's SUPER LEIA!
* Why are Finn & Rose running around The Hunger Game's Capital City with those space horses and that Del Toro guy?
* Porgs porgs porgs! They contribute nothing but look cute and sell toys.
* BB-8's EVIL TWIN! It's in one scene briefly and that's it. MOAR TOYS!
* Admiral Ackbar is there and them *KABOOM* GONE! You hardly notice when it happens!
* Luke Skywalker is an angry, cynical, defeated, snarky, grumpy old codger living as a hermit on an island with Seal-Puffins, Fish Nuns and drinks green milk straight from the udders of a Space-Manatee that's no where as cute as Earth Manatees. He's not his usual idealistic, can-do, optimistic, fighting self.
* Phasma gets dangerous and FIGHTS....for two seconds before getting totally owned and falls to a fiery death.
* Luke arrives at Crait, has an awesome lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren....but is just an astral projection, is really still on Ahch-To and HE DIES SOON AFTER! OH NOES! LUKE SKYWALKER DIES!
* Poe is an impulsive jerkass who does more harm than good and starts a mutiny before he's put in his place by Leia.
* Everybody fails at everything, the villains are dorks, the cool X-Wing pilot is Leeroy Jenkins (and will never get Finn as a boyfriend) and the Republic almost all of The Resistance is gone.

....It's understandable to feel disappointed. That said; Most of these are understandable when you think about them....
* Rey being a nobody turns out to be refreshing. It's shows that ANYONE, even a complete nobody can become a great hero and force sensitive.
* The theme of the story is that nobody truly fits into the image they present....That false expectations can lead to disappointment (which this movie does on a very meta level as well)....That image, legend, myth, etc. can work for good or ill....that evil villains are, by nature, petty losers with issues....that heroes can be impulsive and fail....that mental trauma can break down even the most optimistic person....That there is failure and that we should learn from it.
* The Canto Bight side-plot is a commentary on the 1 Percent and how many of them tend to be the true source of the issues in the world. Finn & Rose also tell the nice, oppressed people (like those stable kids) about the Resistance and inspire them to rise up and "Fight The Power".
* Phasma was meant to be Boba Fett 2.0....a cool-looking character with a fearsome reputation who ends up being a big zero onscreen but who's badassery is fleshed-out in supplementary material like comics and novels. Even then; In the comics, Phasma is shown to be dangerous & evil in a way that isn't cool. She's a cruel bitch who only cares about herself and murders an innocent (well, sort of) F.O. officer whom she framed for HER TREACHERY. She has none of Boba's redeeming attributes.
* If you were a guy who's entire life's dream was to resurrect the Jedi, finally found a Jedi academy, have the whole thing destroyed by your own nephew and realize that the old Jedi as they were were actually outmoded relics and everything you knew was wrong....WOULDN'T YOU BE BROKEN AND CYNICAL, TOO?
* Hux is only a general through backstabbing and nepotism, not any battle experience. He's basically a noodly youngster who's over his head and has delusions of grandeur. He's basically like Kylo "Wanna Be Darth Vader" Ren. They're two immature young men who want to be Tarkin & Vader 2.0 and fail miserably.
* Leia surviving space was awesome and killing her off would be cruel. Also SHE HAS THE FORCE! THE FORCE SAVED HER!
* Luke passed from the physical plane and lives on in The Force and could come back as as a Force Ghost. Also; His last stand was still super-awesome and projecting himself across the galaxy was an amazing feat. About possible redemption for Ben, Luke told Leia it was (even if he couldn't do it).

Sure; I'd love to see Snoke as a fleshed-out Big Bad who lasts most of the series and an adorable droid duke-out between BB-8 and BB-9E (or BB-9E be a regular droid character who hangs with the villains and is evilly cute). I'm bummed that Kylo killing Snoke was basically a rehash of the Sith Rule-Of-Two in effect and not Ben Solo coming home, hugging Leia and makin' Skywalker bacon with Rey. Yes; I feel the death of Ol' Mr. Trap-Squid could've been handled with more gravitas or his death more heroic.

....But remember....THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND FILM IN THE SERIES! ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! SNOKE'S BACKSTORY COULD BE EXPOUNDED ON! MAYBE SNOKE WILL COME BACK IN SOME FORM! PERHAPS KYLO CAN STILL BECOME BEN AGAIN (HE'S OBVIOUSLY NOT REALLY HAPPY WITH HIMSELF) AND HIS LOVE FOR REY AND SNOKE NOT INFLUENCING HIM COULD MAKE HIM RETHINK BEING A BADDIE! PERHAPS WE'LL SEE A LOT MORE BB-9E; EVIL CUTENESS SHOULDN'T BE WASTED (THERE'S TOYS TO SELL, AFTER ALL)!

Oh; I confess I haven't actually watched the movie yet and I'm waiting for it to hit DVD/BluRay.

I saw Last Jedi and liked it. I did have a few big issues with it, specifically a certain commander letting everyone think there was no plan, when a few lines of explanation would have prevented a good chunk of the conflict in the second half. Still, with all the negative reviews I've seen, when it failed to live down to them, I couldn't help but find myself enjoying it.

We actually do know Hux's backstory, from the Empire's End novels. He was the abused son of an Imperial officer who worked with Gallius Rax to implement Palpatine's "contingency": in the event that Palpatine died, Rax was to destroy both the Empire and its enemies by leading them to a massive battle at Jakku, where he was to detonate the planet. Afterwards, he was to use maps created at the Observatory on Jakku to travel into the Unknown Regions and start a new Empire. The computers at the Observatory were from a civilization which predated the Republic, and while Palpatine had been mapping the Unknown Regions, he received a signal through the Force that only he could sense. After his death, Rax dismissed this as superstition, despite the fact that he acknowledged that Palpatine could do magic tricks that nobody else could.

To prepare, Rax abducted a large number of children and brainwashed them to be soldiers (Finn may have come from this group or a number of others like it). He also attempted to off Admiral Rhae Sloane, though she later caught up to him and foiled his plans to destroy the Empire. With his dying breath, he charged her with carrying out the Contingency. With the plot to detonate Jakku foiled and the Republic victory in space, the Empire was wiped out. Sloane decided to travel to the Unknown Regions, along with the child soldiers, Hux, and his father. Since the young Hux seemed to have some influence among the children, Sloane cut a deal with him: protect her from them, and she would protect him from his abusive father. Empire's End ends with the Republic celebrating peace in the galaxy, as well as with Sloane travelling through the Unknown Regions and finding Palpatine's personal Super Star Destroyer. The sentinel droid tells her that others, considered loyal by Emperor Palpatine, were given their coordinates. Sloane declares that rebuilding the Empire is "our first order". The novel ends there.

@ Spuki- I had forgotten about that post. There's so many of them, & they blur together since they're all the same damn thing-massive amounts of self pity mixed with stupid teenage boy fantasies.

I think I've changed my mind about watching it; I don't want to give them the clicks & I guess my curiosity wasn't as strong as I initially thought it was. I'm sure it's on par with Birdemic, Manos the Hands of Fate or the Garbage Pail Kids movie. I will however, read any scathing reviews of it.

Chester is indeed what you think it is. I like it when they advertise.

Side note- Disaster Artist was much fun. My only complaint was that James Franco is too good looking to really be Wiseau. He's too symmetrical & doesn't resemble an escaped BOW. But he nailed everything else.

Warning: Off topic nerding ahead.

Oh hey, Resident Evil/Biohazard references! Speaking as a man and in direct refutation of chester's whinging I absolutely wanted to see more of the strong women presented in the series. Playing RE2 as a young boy Claire Redfield in particular just had me head over heels. Pretty in pink, rolled into town like a badass on her motorcycle, tongue and wit were sharp as the zombie-shanking knife on her shoulder, comfortingly maternal, and bringing the boom with a grenade launcher when turning zombies into pincushions with a crossbow lost its charm. Which was never. That crossbow was sweet. It felt kind of disappointing Leon had much more presence later in the series than she did because by comparison he was kind of boring, epic knife-fights with Krauser notwithstanding.

... But then after years of being left wanting in the wake of Code: Veronica she comes back as a main character in Revelations 2 and... and... WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO HER?! She's still a badass gunslinger, sure, but her personality has become far more passive and honestly kind of bitchy. That sass I loved is still there, in some hollow fashion. Damned if I can deny her character model's all woman and dead sexy as opposed to looking like a teenager or barely passing for her twenties... but JESUS FUCKING DAMN why did they turn her main motivation into lovesick puppy bullshit that had her acting just plain stupid? She completely ignored the safety of a little girl because she was pining after some jackass, something glaringly in opposition to her previous characterization. I hadn't felt that rocked or profoundly insulted by a change in a video game character since Other M. And Moira? Her entire character is summed up as "daddy issues" basically and taken to stupid levels. Even the main antagonists generic as shit motives and vanity somehow come off as negative female stereotypes on steroids despite being largely copied from Albert Wesker... Hell she seems pointlessly fixated on Albert with no real reason instead of having her own motives when she's played up as being even more intelligent and ruthless than he was which makes even less sense given she surpasses his sheer narcissism. And that's saying something!

Plots are pretty bare-bones for these games as is and it's often the narm charm or spectacle that carries them but watching these parodies of womanhood just made my first playthrough painful in ways the hokey lines like "Jill Sandwich" never could. Everything about the game seemed to have some level of contempt for women in the subtext while trying to present strength on the surface. That it's subtle actually makes it stand out more to me because subtle isn't a word that applies anywhere else in that game.

And when the series went the other way, ramping up the testosterone and making Chris Redfield a roided out mountain of meat with biceps thicker than his skull that for no reason other than manliness punched a boulder out of his way I just found it stupid. Dumber than Albert Wesker dressed as Ayran Brotherhood Morpheus fixing his hair in the middle of a fight and chewing the scenery nonstop. It completely undercut the gravitas of segments that were supposed to be tense and they didn't even have the good sense to roll with it in a self-aware sort of way as RE4 did. Speaking of, do you know what the most universally hated part of that game was? Ashley. The Navi for a new generation. Screaming and useless all the time. Like this punk thinks women should be. Could chester honestly say that the moment Ada gets the drop on Leon in the game and she oozes cool and danger that he wouldn't give her so much of his attention he forgets that blonde paperweight even existed for a good minute or so? Or would he have preferred the entire game to be a sausage fest and have Leon rescuing the President's clingy, cowardly, useless for the sake of plot, annoying, constantly shrieking son and have romantic subtext with Krauser instead?

... Fucking Ashley. Sherry Birkin as a child wasn't nearly that kind of frustrating dead weight. Then she grew up and started smacking fools with a stun baton. There are ways to do frightened and even helpless that don't come off so damned aggravating. But nope, there's a cliche to uphold.

So if it's liberal pc feminist bullshit that made my survival horror experience so much fun then I'll take more of that, please, and guys like chester can just find themselves a game populated entirely by burly men fighting even burlier men with a minimum of dialogue and a hundred variations of dick measuring to impress - you guessed it - other men while spewing minimalist dialogue cobbled from stock manly phrases because anything else is feminist brainwashing and masculinity is so bloody fragile we need to be sheltered out entire lives from the unstoppable power of girliness. While women exist entirely offscreen making sandwiches or something because seeing a woman at the same time as anything remotely exciting will cause their balls to retreat into their sternums.

@ Passerby- I think that was probably the nerdiest thing I've ever read. And that's awesome.

Claire was probably stricken with a case of badass decay because she was created by, written by & for men. Most men simply can't do female characters well, especially for an extended period of time, although to be fair that can be challenging for anyone.

I like Leon, but I find him to be a bit bland. Same with Chris. I find him a likeable & competent hero, but a little on the uninteresting side. I'm sure that was by design; games like those are supposed to be about blowing up monsters-not character driven.

You can say what you will, but I love Wesker. He's my hands-down favorite character in the entire franchise; I find him to be immensely entertaining. I've always had a preference for villains; they're so much more fun, at least if done correctly. And, by the time the 5th one rolled around, pretty goddamned smokin' hot. I don't care what anyone says; he positively rocked that S&M getup. And the added bonus-his most recent voice actor is a big fat flaming liberal who rags on PResident Evil on a regular basis on You Tube. Check out DC Douglas if you want; his little animated cartoons tearing on republicans are great.

No one can even come close to equaling, much less surpassing, Wesker's narcissism. Except perhaps for Spencer, & look what happened to him. I hope I'm not the only one who found that really funny.

If you haven't already, check out the 2008 CGI flick RE:Degeneration. Claire has a major role & at one point, hunts zombies with a...red & white umbrella.

I still think that these brats act the way they do is because half of them are in the closet, & the other half were raised to be the way they are. Their parents didn't know any better way to raise them. But if those imbeciles want to spend every waking moment pining for a sausage fest, I won't stop them. Let them have their moronic little sewers they call websites, that way we know who & where they are. It makes them easy to trace & easy to predict. It also keeps them from doing anything rash. And if they choose to waste their lives playing Call of Duty, that means that they're mostly fat, useless scagdeads who will never propagate & will die far before their time of massive coronaries. I call that a win-win.

Oh I never meant to imply Wesker wasn't fun, (especially when you play as him in The Mercenaries game mode as he's an absolute beast which is pretty well reflected in the leaderboards and I've only topped a score I've made with him on a stage using Rebecca in the DLC,) the fact his voice actor went all out in RE5 and explicitly admits to not taking him seriously is his saving grace. You should hear his gag take on Wesker's evil plan monologue. Because he sounds and acts as over the top as he looks he comes off much less stupid than Chris who is played much straighter. But I can assure you the Overseer in Revelations 2, Alex Wesker - not much of a spoiler, if we're being honest - is indeed even more egotistical and lacks all of his charm as she's not played up for fun. Albert might have been an Ubermensch with a God complex but he would at least acknowledge somebody speaking to him. All of what's supposed to be player taunting is Alex talking to herself which is immediately lampshaded twice and her own vanity derailed her big plans rather than take the pragmatic Darwinian views she's built up to have and she sabotaged herself when her body was mutated into something ugly rather than appreciate that she was now effectively unaging and immune to the disease that was killing her before, which lore-wise shouldn't have been an issue because she was injected with the Progenitor virus and survived and was screened at birth for genetic imperfections meaning she shouldn't have any congenitals. It was just painful to go through the story before numbing myself to it, which is a damn shame because I think the actual gameplay and controls were fairly good. Just the simple addition of the ability to reliably dodge out of the way of enemies whose primary method of attack is grabbing improved the game. Hell watching your character scrambling out of the way as a defensive measure even added to the immersion as they were acting like they were under attack and in jeopardy instead of just walking out of the way to get out of danger or the really finicky dodge from the first Revelations. Having a reliable dodge means they can afford to make enemies much more threatening as well. Just a couple of nitpicks on that front. It's worth playing in that regard even though I am filled with unyielding rage about the characterization and misogynistic subtext. Even Barry's insults to Alex seem like stock things to yell at women primarily concerned with their appearance and don't make sense in context, especially when referencing her age as she's the same age as Albert who I'm pretty sure was younger than Barry when he lead STARS. And the Barry/Moira feud, which has a reasonable premise to begin, later on seems entirely to be immaturity on Moira's part as when Barry reveals just why she hates him he's entirely willing to own up to his own fault in the matter right away rather than shoving off responsibility while Moira maintains an absolute "won't talk to him, won't talk about him, don't even mention his name around me, and I will do anything he tells me not to because I hate him and will mention that fact as often as humanly possible" attitude right up until a certain point where everything is just suddenly fine without a word of serious reconciliation between them because Moira was the only one being unreasonable. It was handled horribly and I really do suspect that was deliberate.

... Okay done nerding. I am way too serious about the ways I waste my time.

Edit: Oh and I did see Degeneration. Her active role in civilian protests, refusal to take a back seat, quick resolution of finding out a guy she had some brief chemistry with was a total shithead, all of it is gone in Revelations 2. I'm serious. She barely seems like the same person. I don't mean in like a world weary tired of the fight and picking her battles kind of way either, I mean like she's an actress playing herself, phoning it in, and wishing she could pass her lines along with all action sequences and any real thinking to somebody else.

(Edit2: I stand partially corrected. According to the bio Burton and both Weskers were born the same year, 1960 which still doesn't justify the nature of his insults. The Weskers certainly weathered the years better.)

I'm unclear on how old Barry was in the beginning, but Wesker was my age now-38, the first time he, however briefly, ate it. I think Alex is 1 or 2 years younger, but I'm not positive.

I'll give you that-Alex is rather grating & not much fun. And at least on par with his insane narcissism. I had actually forgotten about her. I guess she made that much of an impact.

How often do you think Wesker acknowledged Excella talking to him? He probably tuned her out every other word, particularly when she was pawing at him. He clearly has considerable restraint; in that he didn't kill Birkin back when they were lab partners. At least she had good taste, but she really should have known better. Never get involved with people that suffer from Chronic Backstabbing Disorder.

I would love to have Wesker's combat capabilities. You could stroll through Detroit at 2am on Saturday past a row of crackhouses & walk out unscathed. And for some reason, I find his use of a magnum in Mercenaries funny. It just seems so unlike him to have a hand cannon.

I'm sure you know it, but there's 2 more CGI movies out there-2010's Damnation which features some bitchin' Ada Wong moves & Vendetta, that came out this past summer. That one has tiny little Rebecca.
