[Do you think the US finally needs to push religion out of government altogether?]
Well according to the deluded folk that constantly tell me the US isn't a christian nation they already have.

Riiight, religion has been pushed out of your government even though ninety+ percent of the government consists of card-carrying christians and a christian fundamentalist holds the vice-presidential post and is poised to ensure that the evangelical death cult continues to command ultimate power for decades to come, just as they have for most of a century already. But no, there's no religion in the American government.
1. The United States isn't a Christian nation. It's a secular nation with a population which is majority Christian.
2. We've hardly pushed religion out of government, since every session of Congress is opened with a (usually Christian) prayer, Greece v. Galloway ensures that town councils can open their meetings with prayer, our currency still says "In God We Trust," and many states still have unconstitutional blue laws which prohibit certain activity on Sundays, just because it's the Christian holy day.
The religious right just had their greatest victory ever. They have a puppet president who will follow their every will. Already his cabinate is much scarier then he is and is filled with comment deniers, anti vaxxers, young earth creationists, rabid pro lifers and so on. People who want to not just end the aca but medicare itself, people who will gut the EPA. These are people now in control of education who have tried to destroy public education while giving money to religious schools. They deny women their right to choose and deny homosexuals equal rights under the law. They are the people who Trump has picked to run the government each is far arose then he is.
You won, and the trump administration had proven that religion still is very much part of the government.
Oh and america never was a Christian nation, you just need to read the constitution to realize that. That is a secular document that clearly states no religion controls our country.
we already SHOULD have, in principle and in theory, but in actual practice that damn camel keeps sticking its smelly nose back in the tent constantly. it needs a good hard whack with something sharp, i keep saying.
Religion has pretty well marginalized itself into a corner. The young people who become educated are looking at the ridiculous claims of religion and saying "what utter baloney" (undoubtedly expressing themselves far more colorfully), leaving religion with the stupid fraction of the population. Unfortunately, that leaves the rest of the Christians in the "useful" category, to be exploited by unscrupulous politicians (yes, I know, an oxymoron).
That being said, I see no way to push religion out of government except that thin black line of Supreme Court justices - and ones that maintain any objectivity and fidelity to the constitution are all aging out, to be replaced by the Orange Bloat by ones he expects to be sympathetic to his financial interests. Of course, people have "misjudged the judges" before...
Confused?
