It was the threat of Islam and the barbarians that led to the fall of Rome. Not christianity itself..Same with constantinople. Except the muslims overtook that whole city and forced the Jiza tax on orthodox catholic christians..

You need to re-read your history, dumbfuck.
Islam did not start until long after the fall of Rome.
Muslims never took over the city of Rome.
Christians had more to do with the fall of Rome than did the Muslims.
Fuck, you're stupid.
It was the threat of Islam and the barbarians that led to the fall of Rome. Not christianity itself..
The corrupt and decadent Roman emperors were not Muslim. The various Germanic tribes that invaded and ransacked Rome were not Muslim. Islam had nothing to do with the fall of Rome.
Same with constantinople. Except the muslims overtook that whole city and forced the Jiza tax on orthodox catholic christians.
You just proved your woeful ignorance of history with that last sentence. I know this may be a bit difficult for you to understand, but Orthodox Christians and Catholics belong to two different denominations of Christianity. They are not the same. Furthermore, when the Turks captured Constantinople, they were able to do so because the Catholics (who ARE Christian) had pillaged the city earlier, leaving it vulnerable to future invasion. Crack open a history book one day, why don't you?
"Fall, or I'll invent a new religion!"
Wait, that doesn't quite work.
If I remember my history readings (probably much better than you), pagan Rome built a great empire, grew rich, spread throughout the known world.
They persecuted the Christians, fed them to lions, decorated trees with them.
Then, a Roman Emperor converted the entire empire to Christianity. Rome became the very center of the Christian world. The church spread out and converted as many people as they could. Soon, the empire was weakened, split, and overrun by pagan barbarians.
I guess the moral of the story is: If you want a strong country, persecute the Christians and keep the pagans happy.
(Whee! Isn't misinterpreting history fun, kids?)
Islam didn't exist at the time of the Romans. In fact appeared two hundred years AFTERWARDS. And concerning Constantinople, it had been invaded by the same Barbarians for AGES until it was taken by the Turks. Darling, who taught you history?
Just to be pedantic....both Orthodox christians and those following the Roman rite can, and do, consider themselves to be "catholic" (meaning universal). I suspect that along with Renton405's many other delusions, he/she doesn't know the difference between an Orthodox catholic and a Roman catholic.
BTW the Visigoth barbarians who sacked rome in the 5th Century were christians; Arian christians, a different brand of christian to the main body of christians, but still christians.
Constantinople was sacked by the Roman christians in 1204, recovered by Orthodox christians in 1261 and finally fell to the Muslim Turks in 1453.....the Roman christians having refused to send any aid to the city.
But given the level of historical ignorance displayed by Renton405, I wonder why I bother......
Betsy, you beat me to it. I was going to say I was pretty sure the Goths (led by Alaric?) who sacked Rome in the 5th century were largely Christianized. The other thing this Renton probably doesn't know is just how close the creed of Arius came to being the official creed of the Roman Church rather than the trinitarian creed. It was a decision made by a Frankish or Burgundian ruler (I think) that firmly established Arianism as heresy. Otherwise, old Renton would believe something very different today and be none the wiser.

Orthodox Catholic Christians?, WTF?. Constantinople had a majority of ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN, not Catholics.............they're two different denominations. As for the Armenians you mention later on, they're A MINORITY in those territories and are CATHOLICS, not Orthodox.
As others have already said, Rome fell in the 5th Century, and if I remember my history right, Mohammed started Islam soetime in the 700's wasn't it? And just what is a jizz tax? Is it a tax on, oh never mind.

No no no no, you fail to understand the TRUE evidence for Christianity:
When Christians took over the Roman Empire and kicked the butts of the Pagans, this was evidence that Christianity was the true word of God.
When Christians later got their butts kicked by Muslims, this was evidence that Christians were being martyred and therefore represented the true word of God.
Ya see? Insurmountable evidence!
Fall of Rome: 5th century
Birth of Islam: 7th century
The Byzantine Empire did indeed fall to Islamic troops (Ottoman) in 1453. However this poster conveniently forgot that the crusaders of the Fourth Crusade sacked the city two centuries before already.
Sure, the muslims took a time maschine and managed, not only to precipitate the fall of an empire that fell in a time where they didn´t exist, but also to come back in time and make Catholics be Orthodox at the same time.
