racism is the default position of white people because you’re taught to be racist at birth.

Oh yes, I remember the three Rs very well. "Reading, writing, and...racism". Yep, I was always best at the last one. I always got A's in racism class.
Just like blacks are taught to be thugs and Jews are taught to be greedy manipulators, right?
PS: And of course, Asians are taught to be spying mindless worker drones who torture endangered animals for quackery.
Wrong, racism is the default position of humanity, since humans have a natural fear/unease of "the other".
It has to be unlearned through life, and I see that the tumblrites of Reclaiming Asia still haven't progressed far in that regards.
Only correct on a very technical level - there is a systemic racism that influences how the media portrays people who don't fit the default/privileged race, which influences one on a subconscious level.
Not to mention that white people are inherently treated more favorably than a non-white person in the same situation. (A black person with great acting skills might get passed over in favor of a white person with lesser acting skills, for example)
Lack of good representation tends to lead to increased depression among children. And it doesn't just affect white people - internalized racism happens, and furthermore, PoC can be racist against other PoC. (It still counts even among the power + prejudice definition because it perpetrates the systemic racism. It's like how a woman can be misogynist and support the patriarchy.)
"Racism is the default position of white people" is a criminal oversimplification of a very real discussion about a very real problem. Only a subset of white people are consciously racist - the rest are ignorant about culture's influence on their worldview.
When i was, I dunno, ten or so, Sammy Davis Junior bragged that while White people could only have partners tinted like milk, he could have anyone from cafe au lait to dark chocolate.
I asked my mom why white people couldn’t pick a partner of dark chocolate complexion?
I also wondered who would choose a partner based on whether they clashed with the sofa…?
I never did quite understand the reply i got.
Confused?
