This reminds me of a conversation I had years ago with a fundy former friend. I asked her why biblegod would wipe out the children of his enemies along with the adults, when babies are supposedly born innocent (this grew from a conversation about abortion, of course).
Her answer: god knew those children would grow up to hate him or disobey him based on the actions of their parents or guardians, therefore killing them all at once during the destruction of Sodom and Gommorrah or via one of god's wars was just and good.
Then I asked her why christians oppose abortion, if god knows we are going to sin or disobey him, wouldn't sending the soul back to him save the eventual child from hell?
Her answer: I would need to accept Jesus, then god would make me understand why this was unacceptable.
I compared this belief to the film 'Minority Report', in which Tom Cruise arrests people for crimes they will eventually commit.
She said there was no comparison because everything god does is good and just, and he doesn't have to justify himself to people who don't believe in him anyway.
I reminded her that if he would provide answers to people's questions, they might be more willing to have faith in him, but since he never does, we have to guess. Plus, by not doing so he presents himself as a horrific monster who actually hates his creations rather than a creator who understands how fallible he made us in the first place.
I was about to further explain that he is more like an abusive spouse who beats the shit out of you whether you provoke him or not (while telling you he loves you and assuring you that you can't live without him), when she promptly (and abruptly) ended the conversation.
We haven't talked in awhile.
