Well, that makes sense. First hunt followed by a party if he succeeds in killing a critter. None of this self-mortification/fire ant glove-type stuff.
Actually I think they were "Bullet Ants" which is a zillion-times worse.
Sure, an endurance test makes some sense when you live the rough hunter/gatherer life but it should be something useful, not torture.
That said, I like the basic concept of a special "coming-of-age" celebration for when his voice changes or her first visit from "Aunt Flo". Have a nice ceremony or party for the kid.
