I have no German ancestry, but I just came back from a trip to Germany - Berlin, to be exact - so I feel that I must comment on this. (That, and the fact that it's so repulsive)

I think that the real question is: why do YOU think they are so evil? I don't know about you, but all of the Germans I met on my trip ranged from normal to very nice. And my group's tour guide was positively adorable. So, I don't know what the heck you're talking about.

Really? How curious then, that during my trip, nowhere did I see anybody wearing armbands with swastikas on them. Furthermore, there were quite a number of ethnic non-German restaurants where I was: Chinese, Turkish, Vietnamese, etc., you know, that are NOT "white-Aryan-German-Caucasian purebloods." And - gasp! - I even saw non-white people on German television! But you're right, I'm sure that Adolf Hitler would proudly endorse such things, because the Nazis had such a great track record when it came to their treatment of minorities. *eyeroll*
And oh, yes, the Holocaust Memorial and the Jewish Museum in Berlin, the transformation of concentration camps into memorials for the dead (with tour guides who clearly state that what the Nazis did was BAD), the fact that wearing a Nazi uniform is considered a crime in Germany and can get you arrested (as was pointed out when Prince Harry was photographed wearing a Nazi costume) - yes, all of those points clearly show that Germany is still staunchly set in its Nazi ways and that Germans everywhere hate Jews and spit at their graves. *eyeroll*

The Celts (i.e. the ancestors of the current inhabitants of the British Isles: the Irish, the Scots, the Welsh, etc.) and the Gauls (i.e. the ancestors of the French) weren't too fond of them, either. Gee, I wonder why that was? It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the Romans basically sticking a flag in their land and calling it theirs without even asking.

While the Germanic invasions did play a part in the fall of Rome, they were by no means the only factor. Poor management and organization, corrupt emperors, and generally the sheer enormity of the empire itself all contributed to Rome's downfall.

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the Prussians WERE German. I thought that Prussia was one of the divided GERMAN states. I don't know, during my trip, the Germans seemed quite happy to claim Frederick the Great, who was ruler of Prussia, as one of their own.

Someone has issues. Look, my grandfather and his family were living in Greece during WWII. During the Nazi occupation, people were starving in the streets and there was no electricity. Nazi officers repeatedly took advantage of the Greeks and committed various crimes against them - such as shooting them for minor or imaginary offenses or burning schools to the ground. And, of course, they rounded up Greek Jews and sent them to concentration camps - but not before humiliating them in public. So, you'd think that my grandfather would hate Germans with a passion, right? WRONG. He does not think they're scum, he does not ever call them dogs, and neither do I. Both of us are intelligent and mature enough to realize that the current generation of Germans not only has had nothing to do with what happened back then, but that they're PEOPLE. Not dogs. The NAZIS were scum. Not all Germans were Nazis back then and I strongly doubt that many Germans are now.
