So, here's my question: If the school wanted to have a public prayer to say, Ra, would you allow it?
Can you people not do one damn thing without prayer being involved? This falls under the catagory of pushing religion because it's pointless, you wanna pray, pray before you go in. Hell, sit in your seat and pray during the whole thing for all we care, stop making it a required practice for others.
What if the school wanted a Jewish public prayer? Or Buddhist?

This is why Public Schools shouldn't have any mention of god. You either don't mention any religion, or you mention and give credit to EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Ok, you know what I think would've gone over better? A minute of silence at the graduation. That way, you could pray to whichever entity you want, reflect on the past or the future, or give a mental thank you to whoever got you to that point. Or take a minute long nap and wonder when you can get the eff out of there.
That way, it stays private, and no one gets to accuse anyone else of being Hitler.

America is secular. Public schools are owned by the government. Get used to it or enlist your kid(s) in a private Christian school.
Or the school could find out what religions all the students belong to and offer a prayer for each and every one, ending with a secular "good luck and take care" for everyone.
Why? A lot of religious people don't want the school conducting prayer ceremonies, either. What if they announced they were going to begin the graduation with a little prayer, and then asked everyone to face east and say a prayer to Allah? The kids and their families would hit the roof. But they see nothing wrong with prayer as long as it's one for their religion. Apparently they missed the part about "do unto others ..."

What is it with Americans and fucking praying at all these public events? I've attended both my kids' high school graduation ceremonies up here in Canada and not so much as a mention of a prayer was made. It seems you stupid fuckers down South have to praise the lawd whenever you play sports, or race cars, or break wind. Do you honestly think he gives a rat's ass?

Amazing how "don't force me to pray" turns into "I force you not to pray" in minds of these people. I personally had an interaction with an otherwise reasonable person who claimed that "schools don't allow prayer". When I objected that, as a matter of fact, they do, just don't require it, she mumbled something incoherent about kids not being able to decide for themselves, how we should teach them the correct values, etc. Something tells me it's not genuine, and they only pretend to not understand the difference. Their power trip is coming to an end, and apparently they don't like that (well, duh).

Let's face it, the whole prayer in school issue is about forcing religion onto everyone's children. If the kids are religious and want to, they can pray anywhere and any time they want as long as it's not disruptive. But it's not about fundies making sure their kids pray, it's about making sure that everyone else's kids are forced to pray as well. It's all about control, and Christians want to make sure that your heathen kids are forced to pray. But they're furious that this is one battle they've long lost and won't win again.
If the homosexuals are still "out there trying to kill America," doesn't that imply that they're, you know, <b>still alive,</b> not burning in Hell?
If heaven and hell were real, Hitler would be in heaven, as he was a Christian. Still, 2 out of 3 isn't bad I suppose.
I don't know any homosexuals that are trying to "kill" America.
