The issue is twofold:  1. That, as long as slavery was legal, it was the duty of Christian slaves to be obedient to their masters, 'not only to the good and gentle but also to the froward.'  2. That the word of God never judges a man for the mere fact of owning another man. To the contrary, it commends several slave owners in highest terms. For example, Abraham, the Roman Centurion, and Philemon.  The abolitionist and other social movements of the the 19th and early 20th centuries - namely the feminist movement, the "temperance" movement, the youth movements, and the socialist movement - greatly affected the Baptist approach to the Scriptures. It was during that time that Baptists began to exalt human wisdom above the Scriptures. Now we are moving towards the 'gay rights movement.' Just as before, there will be those who resist, but in a matter of time acceptance of homosexuality among Baptist churches will be common place.

is it right for men to post in forums moderated by women? isn't this an example a of lady having authority over a man? how about in a christian forum? should a christian lady exercise authoiry over her brothers in this way?

Hogwash John Ritter is no more saved then a pig is saved... John Ritter didn't have integrity so he played an immoral character on an immoral sitcom [Three's Company] that glorifed a man living together with two unmarried women for the glory of the devil and influenced many to follow his example. As I said John Ritter is in hell where he belongs...

greatday #fundie baptistboard.com

I also love it how you say we are commanded not to judge and yet have judged me a saint to be a sinner while Ritter who is a sinner to be a saint! You nothing but a false and deceived one who is probably on the way to hell for judging a brother in the Lord according to Matthew 5:22

The Abolition Movement was the culmination of BAD THEOLOGY, centered around Unitarian/Universalist belief. It was a humanistic, knee-jerk reaction to perceived ills. Until that movement there was never a problem with Baptists and slavery... The Feminist Movement was the culmination of BAD THEOLOGY form liberal churches that did not accept the Biblical teaching or authority about the role of women. It was a humanistic, knee-jerk reaction to perceived ills. Until that movement, only the most liberal of Baptists would even consider ordaining a woman. And on with Blacks and Civil Rights And Gay rights Think you're on to something here, Mark. Good post.

Get a life and stop reading into me and my life. The topic is John Ritter not me! For the record those who are unrepentant and continue to commit sexual sins and associate with those who do, like John Ritter, go to hell, not heaven. So get off your high horse and open your eyes before God calls you a liar and a deceived one for defending a sinner and attacking a saint and you will join John Ritter...

Under these circumstances, the man would have fully repented of homosexuality and would wholly reject the label 'abstinate homosexual' but rather 'former homosexual'. In short, anyone who considered themselves a 'homosexual', abstinate or active, would not be fully repentant and therefore not qualifed to minister.

Scott J #fundie baptistboard.com

One cannot simultaneously be truly repentant and label themselves by a predisposition towards a particular sin. Contrary to popular indoctrination, 'homosexual' is defined by what some perverse people do, not by what they are.

I have found with the evolutionary side is that they have an excuse for everything. There is NOTHING which they cannot accomodate one way or another. That makes any evidence presented by creation folk irrelevant, ignorant, too limited to count, etc.

They [Mormons] claim some ancient civilizations here on the American continents. There is not only no evidence for that claim, there is evidence against it! ... But they will not admit to either weakness, because they 'know' L[atter]D[ay]S[aint] theology is true! Why do they know it is true? Because they were taught it is true -- or because any alternative was handled so poorly by others that Mormonism becomes a default theology. Nevertheless, it is a lie.

What would happen if people actually found the Ark? Massive tourism; shrines; it would become Super-Relic and wood from the Ark would be faked and sold all over the world. Those who did not want to believe it real would continue to refuse -- after all, they already refuse in the face of other evidence of the actual reality of Genesis!

You see, life isn't just chemicals. If it were, you could take a recently dead organism and get it to live again, simply by jump-starting the molecules somehow. But that doesn't work, does it? Instead, we know that life is something apart from the chemicals; something somehow imposed on them which uses them but is not them.

One of the reasons I was impressed with creationist writing and speaking at the beginning was not just their use of data, but the attitude with which it was presented. Instead of hearing, or reading, “this is the way it was” as though it were already known for sure, I was hearing an invitation to think and reason for myself, which was quite refreshing.

The Paluxy river in Glen Rose, Texas... was found to have millions of dinosaur and human footprints side by side! Now if them years were millions of years old why are there human footprints beside dino ones??

Supporting Islam runs contrary to the spirit of this nations founding Fathers...that of not kissing up to anyone, not being afraid to take politcal risks and tell something like it is. I guess if you boil it down, as a Christian I don't really care for most of the pettiness this world, society, and government has to offer, especially stupid, false religions like Islam.

I think this issuing of a Muslim stamp on George Washington's Birthday is a deliberate slap in the face by the USPS to traditional American Judeo-Christian beliefs...... This is another selling out of America in the name of political correctness. It is a slap in the face of the 09/11 Islamic jihad victims, as well. And contrary to what was posted above, I do believe God is interested in the affairs of even mundane things such as postage stamps. God is going to JUDGE the NATIONS someday as well as individual people. If He cares about a sparrow that falls, He cares about stamps!

[Commenting on Stephen Jay Gould's death]I'll bet that atheist is wishing he had not led so many people astray! I am sure that leeches like him get an "extra special" treatment in Hell. He asked for it, and he deserves it!

Reborn James #fundie baptistboard.com

I don't know what you are suggesting, but you are sadly mistaken if you think I have any sympathy for an atheist maggot who spent most of his life trying to legitimatize a Satanic ideology. He's a Christian now, but a little too late.

I am the principal of a Christian School. A child in our second grade asked her teacher about "Santa". The teacher told her that "Santa" was a fairy tale not to be confused with Jesus who was not. The next day the parents were in contact with me about disallusioning their child. What was especially enlightening was when the parent expressed alarm when the child asked her "What else have you lied to me about?

I use to live in the Milwaukee area a few years back, and witnessed homo-sexuals walking and other things in public, and on the streets in broad daylight. A deplorable sight and very embarrassing for my children to witness such abominations.

The only thing that proves is there are many Biblical teachings about Jesus that satan has mimicked via "santa claus". 1)His white hair like wool. 2)Has a beard. 3)Comes in red apparel. 4)Hour of his coming is a mystery. 5)Is a carpenter. 6)Comes as a thief in the night. 7)Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent 8)Ageless, eternal 9)Giver of gifts. 10)Sits on a throne. 11)Wants little children to come to him. 12)Judges ...and there is so much more! Satan/santa is leading adults and children away from Jesus. Ask any child what christmas is really about.

They can believe in evolution and still be a Christian, but that goes to show that they are: 1) In need of taking the Scriptures more seriously; and 2) In need of taking science more seriously (especially the laws of thermodynamics). Evolution is a philosophy and it is a religion, it is far from being a science. After all, it is the "theory" of evolution.
