Thanks to my roomie for sending me the link to this place. It renews my sense of despair in the scary people who seem to run the US. Like I needed more... *hmph*
Anyway, I tried to create an account at freejesus.net so I could put my 2 cents in a place "Betty" might actually read it, (knowing that I'd be banned and my ISP would be notified, which I was prepared to fight since technically, every person on that site is breaking the "rules" of having an account so really, they'd have to ban everyone) and gmail accounts are "banned". It wouldn't let me actually sign up until I used my actual ISP address. Funny that. Now I'm waiting on "approval of a moderator". How much you want to bet that they "google" my email address and dub me unworthy? Pah.
This woman may not have held the gun of fed the pills or slit the wrists (or however he managed it) but she is the one at fault, no doubt about it. She killed her son just as sure as the sun rises in the east. Understanding, compassion and unconditional love (not, "I love you, but your salvation is in danger because of your unnatural temptations") go a long way to help a kid deal with things that are already confusing the hell out of him in a time when his hormones are crazed and peer pressure is off the chart. Far as I'm concerned, she should be sued for wrongful death. Finding a "more moral" therapist, indeed!
I've read what many folks say about how she was brainwashed so it's the fault of the church, not her, and I have to disagree. One thing we all have, and the bible (for those who follow/believe in it) espouses is Free Will. She, and billions of others over the centuries, have sucked up what the church has told them and never questioned that it could be wrong, out of date, or contradicts other rules in the same book. They CHOOSE to swallow the religious dogma hook, line, and sinker and like sheep, follow the herd, never raising a hand to say, "But that doesn't make sense if [this other part of the bible] is also true." Call it brainwashing, or whatever else you like, but she still chose to make those beliefs her own regardless of how inhumane and, ultimately, "ungodly" they are. As one of you pointed out; if God made everything, then he made "gay". If the church says gays are an abomination, they are saying that gods creations are abominations. Period.
When the time comes for her own personal death, she'll understand what she's done and grieve anew, this time for the wrong she did to her own flesh and blood kin. Kin protects and cares for kin. Period. Your family should be who you can go to for any reason. Should be. I went through something similar 11 years ago when my big mouth blood related sister told my parents that I'm bisexual, and again, 1 year ago when she told them that I'm polyamorous, and that one of my very best friends is transgender. My parents turned their backs on me because they thought we were "exposing the kids to these "unnatural temptations"". WTF? They're not even Christian! Since when does bisexuality and polyamory translate directly to "child abuse" or "child molesting"? Forget the fact that I'd be spending time in jail for killing anyone who ever touched one of my kids in that way.
Gotta love the fundies. Killing themselves off one by one, and sometimes, en masse. Too bad the innocents end up dying too. I wish her kid could have held on long enough to get out from under her roof and thumb. There is help out there. Speaking of; there is a group for kids like him in Portland, OR called SMYRC (Sexual Minorities Youth Resource Center) and they've saved lives just like the one of this woman's son. Google it or click it. They might be able to tell you about programs in your area.
