If you jumped over someone’s fence, ran across their lawn, entered their house through an unlocked front door, then went into a number of rooms before being apprehended, you would probably face a charge of unlawful entry and get around 30 hours of community service. This is because it wouldn't be considered a serious crime.

Recently, a 42 year-old Texan named Omar Gonzalez, jumped a fence, ran across a lawn, entered a house through an unlocked door, and then went into a number of rooms before being apprehended. He faces up to 16 years in prison. The house into which he made unlawful entry was The White House.

The reason for the difference between the two punishments, is the party against whom the crime was committed. One was against a mere citizen, the other was against the office of the President of the United States. You can catch a glimpse of the importance of the President’s position by the punishment imposed.

All sin is against God. That’s why it results in death and damnation.
