Scourge, I am a Sonic fan. In fact, I tend to prefer the modern games to the Classic games, and even like Boom TV. My experience with liking Boom means I've seen what low-hanging fruit looks like in the form of its hatedom, and furthermore, that things most people would brush off too over-the-top to be real are, in fact, legitimate.
Plus, many of my friends online are also Sonic fans. So it stands to reason that I didn't mean any of this as a jab against every Sonic fan that ever was or believe that all Sonic fans are crazy and stupid-- else, I'd be insulting myself and the people I care about.
However, you can't deny that there's a very weird side to the Sonic fandom. Yes, there's a weird side to every fandom, but I find that Sonic's tends to be... especially loud and somewhat bigger than usual. Its probably not helped by groups like Sonic Adventure 3 that seem to thrive off of this stuff and urge people to be as vocal about their stupidity as possible, and the media constantly antagonizing it with stuff that normal fans are smart enough to brush off or debunk reasonably but that send weird fans into several levels of anger and depression. And with stuff like CWC macing a Gamestop employee over Rise of Lyric or Bryan Beaubian (aka superpsyguy) using Sonic to attract numerous girls on the internet and pressure them into abusive and pedophillc relationships that are very real, its safe to say that the fandom hit the Tyson Zone in terms of just how low that weird side can sink and how illogical it can be. Hell, I've had the misfortune of stumbling across some Nazi Sonic-themed fanart when I was looking for the good fanart on Deviantart, but its not safe for work or anywhere else really so you'll have to find it on your own time if you so wish.
Exposing that part, however, weakens it. Sonic Adventure 3, for example, hit all-time low for popularity when it was called out for insulting Sonic PR guy Aaron Webber for doing a charity livestream that raised money for and promoted Extra Life (a children's charity that helps hospitals-- I urge you to look into what its doing for people and why because its really heartwarming) instead of making SA3 and then fake-apologizing for it twice. It hasn't yet recovered the people who blocked the group in protest or their reputation, which went from people either seeing it as lukewarm or a huge joke to being so bad many don't even want to mention it by name and others outright loathe it. Once the stories about Beaubian's abuses came out, he was roundly and loudly condemned and he and his sockpuppets were essentially forced off of the internet. So that's why I bring up Alt Right Sonic. Fake or real, I suspect malice with this account. If it gets exposed, it will be weakened.
