["What do you think heaven will be like?"]
I think the biggest supprise will be when people realize that some believers will have rank and honors while others will be peons.

Now, I haven't read the Bible cover-to-cover, but I don't seem to recall anything about a heavenly hierarchy of the "saved". I don't think there's even any Biblical basis for this belief, much less real evidence.
Re: #22835
I'm currently writing an extensive work on contradictions and other silliness in the bible and I can assure you there is actually biblical support for his notion of rank in heaven. Read the parable in Matt 20:1-16. Also, Matt 16:27, Rom 2:6, Rev 20:13 & 22:12 and Psalm 62:12 all speak of men being rewarded according to their works. This means that in heaven some persons will receive greater rewards than others.
Papabear: "Read the parable in Matt 20:1-16. Also, Matt 16:27, Rom 2:6, Rev 20:13 & 22:12 and Psalm 62:12 all speak of men being rewarded according to their works."
I thought 'works' were as filthy rags to god or some such tripe?
Not that it matters. Just one more contradiction. God should've sent an editor for his holy book instead of sending Jesus.
Well, that just figures, doesn't it? Here I would be expecting an eternity of bliss and leisure, and the next thing I know, I've got a job -- and not just white-collar work, either, but going out to plow the fields on some archangel's estate. Forever. And that's supposed to be PARADISE?
I think I'll take the other place -- sure, it's got that climate problem, but at least it's a dry heat!

Re: #22873 & 22902
Contadictions abound in the bible.
There is biblical support for salvation by faith, works, faith & works, God's grace, and predestination.
Sorry. Just seems like a good time to bring in these quotes from he who shall remain nameless:
I believe to-day that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator. In standing guard against the Jew I am defending the handiwork of the Lord.
Mein Kampf p. 46
The New Testament is also full of contradictions, but that hasn’t prevented the spread of Christianity.
As reported by Hanfstaengl.
I too am religious; that is, religious deep inside.
Speech, 8 November, 1943
Christianity is the hardest blow that ever hit humanity. Bolshevism is the bastard son of Christianity; both are the monstrous issue of the Jews.
Mid-July, 1941:
Let him be a peon in heaven and I'll party in Hell with all the other fun loving people. People who have fun tend to be doomed to hell by chrisians far more than the poor guy on the corner of the street.
Conclusion: all the people who had sex before marriage go to hell, all people who had any kind of fun without thinking of jesus go to hell, anyone who sins against the holy spirit is going to hell (this is actually the only sin which can't be forgiven according to Jesus. Can't remember the bible book). Guess it will be fun with all the party animals in the 7 layers of hell. At least better than dusting clouds and listening to all the holier-than-thou-art people in heaven.
So, if I've got this right, in Heaven we will all be oppressed by more powerful people, exactly like we were on earth.
Why are people so eager to get up there, then?
That's why the catholics talk about purgatory, acknowledging that there are some degree of variation between "eternal bliss" and "eternal punishment". Only that it is a temporary state, ending up in heaven anyway.
Doesn't sound much like Heaven to me.
if I had to say what Heaven should be like, I'd say it would be a place where everyone would be treated with equal respect.
“I think the biggest supprise will be when people realize that some believers will have rank and honors while others will be peons.”
Oh, my GOD how self-centered you are. You’ll be in HEAVEN, while the rest of humanity is burning in Hell, and that’s not superior ENOUGH. You want God to pin oak leaves on your lapel, so you’re better than the BEST around you.
Confused?
