The West can learn a lot from Saudi Arabia when it comes to gender equality as Saudi women enjoy more rights than their Western counterparts, a princess from the kingdom has claimed.

Speaking at the World Tolerance Summit in Dubai on Wednesday, Princess Lamia bint Majid criticised portrayals of Saudi women in the western media, saying that they do not accurately reflect their situation.

"The West always thinks that women in my country are vulnerable and not being given their rights," Princess Lamia told The National at the Dubai event.

"I remember being in a meeting in the UK recently where they were discussing the problem of unequal pay between men and women and I couldn't help but smile to myself.

"Men and women have equal pay in Saudi. If someone is earning even one riyal less than someone doing the same job they can sue.

"That's not the case in the West, despite the fact they've been talking about it for years."

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei accused protesters in Iraq and Lebanon of succumbing to "Zionist regime".
"The people of Iraq and Lebanon have some demands that are rightful, but they should know these demands can only be realised within the legal framework of their countries," he said in remarks aired on state television.

"When the legal structure is disrupted in a country, no action can be taken," he added.

He also took to his English Twitter account to repeat his claim that has been lambasted as a conspiracy.

"I recommend those who care in #Iraq and #Lebanon remedy the insecurity and turmoil created in their countries by the U.S., the Zionist regime, some western countries,and the money of some reactionary countries", he said in a controversial tweet.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani echoed Khamenei, accusing those protesting against corruption of "foreign interference".

"Our advice has always been to call for peace and (stopping) interference by foreign forces in these countries,” President Hassan Rouhani's chief of staff Mahmoud Vaezi was quoted as saying by state media.

If you’re a woman and have “haram” sex, you’re more likely to get cancer according to a Moroccan cleric.

The cleric, Sheikh Abderahman Sekkach sparked outrage when he came out with his statement on local radio station Chaada FM, especially after he used pseudo-science to justify his bizarre epiphany.

Sekkach argued that when a woman has sex for the first time, her vagina "decodes" her husband’s sperm. So when she has engages in intercourse with someone who is not her husband, her vagina gets confused because it now has to decode the sperm of another man.

This, according to Sekkach, causes cancer in the uterus. He however did not take credit for this new revelation, but said that this new fact was discovered by “Western scientists” who are proving the wisdom of extramarital sex being banned in Islam, despite him also reportedly saying that the West is falling to abyss and has no benefits to Muslims.

He also claimed that this is proof behind God’s wisdom behind the prescribed iddah period, which outlaws women from remarrying for 40 days after they have been widowed or divorced.

“What Western scientists have just found out is what the prophet Muhammad already knew over 1400 years ago. He knew that the uterus needed these 40 days for her vagina to reset its coding. How did he know if it is not the divine miracle?” he said.

As the group has been attracting criticism for their views on Syria, Stop the War Coalition has been accused of preventing pro-revolution Syrians from protesting bombing of their country. Stop the War Coalition is facing a further barrage of criticism following accusations that they attempted to bar Syrian protesters from an anti-war march on Saturday.The UK anti-war group has been accused of being apologists for the Syrian regime, reportedly inviting pro-Assad speakers to its events and no-platforming Syrians who support the revolution.The group has come under more scutiny recently as the leader of the opposition Labour party Jeremy Corbyn has been a leading member in the group since it was founded.During the demonstration on Saturday, protesters from the Syrian solidarity movement attempted to join to express their opposition to the British bombing campaign, while also standing against Assad and his allies.Immediately after joining the demo, John Rees, chaiman of Stop the War Coalition, reportedly told a Syrian refugee and a member of the Syria Solidarity movement, Peter Tatchell, that they had to leave the protest.
