Stepford Wives by (((Ira Levin))) stigmatized the role of the traditional white housewife. Its damage on our culture cannot be overstated.
...
Stepford Wives is a pure Jewish expression of hatred for the foreign shiksas.
...
Today the term "Stepford Wife" is commonly used as a pejorative for obedient, attractive wives– something once considered healthy and normal

Missing the fucking point in so many goddamned ways. It isn't attacking the wives you shithead, the husbands quite pointedly couldn't care less about anything that wasn't themselves. Robbing women of their free will rather than talking out even the minor problems that simply come from the daily interactions with any given human being and murdering anyone that would get in the way of their easy lives. They didn't care what price anyone else paid as long as they personally were content and never had to deal with a problem they couldn't solve unilaterally.
Stepford Smiler doesn't refer to housewives, it refers to people that hide severe emotional pain and consider keeping up appearances paramount.
But you don't care, do you? Those are other people's problems and you're more interested in what people should be doing for you regardless of their own opinions.
I would love to see a remake that has the "Men's Association" defeated but isn't an awkward mess like the Frank Oz-directed remake that was made (which turned it into a big joke and undermined the premise a bit at the end).
There were TV movie sequels, however, the first one having the Men's Association actually defeated....but then they had to milk it for all it's worth with "Stepford Children" and "Stepford Husbands" (the later turning the original on it's head as some Reactionary fantasy).
However; The sequels aren't considered canon.
I have an idea for how to do the remake....The heroine of the story is a computer wiz with hacking skills and the women were given lobotomy-implants rather than replaced with ultra-realistic robots (for the realism-factor). She breaks into the Men's Association and hacks the Main Interface controlling the Stepford Wives. It could end two ways....
* She successfully undoes the program and the women return to normal.
* The women are neurologically-damaged beyond repair but she successfully turns them against the men and they trash the men and the city before self-destructing.
* She almost succeeds at the above but is caught and "Stepforded" and it ends like the original....except it cuts to a new scene where she is now cutting up veggies at home....then the "Kill the Stepford Guys Program" kicks in and it ends like Option #2. It may be implied that deep-down, the women are still "there" as people but the "Stepford Wife" program was greatly weakened....thus, providing the symbolism of oppressed women "waking up" and "fighting back".
....I also think The Stepford Wives was lacking in sympathetic male characters and male-allies. There needs to be a nod to them or even a subplot about "Stepford Men", enlightened non-sexist men who are altered into being macho Men's Association shitheels.
Confused?
