In 2012, the U.S. population was 313 million people. 3.8% were openly gay. That's 11,894,000 gays.
As you state, this openly gay population represents 0.1% of gays (100 - 99.9 = 0.1). So, following the math, the gay population of the United States in 2012 was 11,894,000,000.
So, it has now been shown that 3800% of the US population is gay.
The census data shows 1 in every 178 households involved a same-sex couple. That's 0.56% of households in the US. Unless virtually every same-sex household consists of lesbians, the US is more than 100% gay.
