“Good relationships occur when both partners have the same culture. The problem is that culture is very much tied to race.”
My experience differs. My wife is Catholic, I was Mormon for many years and atheist when I met her.
My wife has a college education, a degree. I went from High School to the Military.
My wife’s mother made her learn to cook because that’s what girls did. I took home ec as an elective.
She’s from a suburb of Pittsburgh, I’m from a tiny town in South Idaho.
However: we’ve both been scifi fans forever. We’ve both burned at least one dinner watching a Star Trek episode. We were both in the Navy, and stationed in Scotland when we met. We’ve both been Leading Petty Officers so neither of us bitched if the division called us in the middle of the night. We’ve both seen junior sailors who were incompetent at their life when they left home, so our kids were raised to at least be able to cook, shop, drive, and do laundry.
Our cultures overlap a great deal. We are not the same race.
“Unless one of the partners is willing to submit culturally, you'd both be settling for a weak relationship.”
We’ve been married since 1987. Never cheated on her, I’m certain she’s never cheated on me. I’m still fantastically in love with her.
“I'm not against race-mixing 100%, but I'm very skeptical about it.”
I think you’re projecting more than you’re seeing.
“After all, it was liberals who first pushed the issue, desegregation, etc. And as someone who is mixed race, I know the problems it causes.”
Or maybe you’re just an asshole?
Everyone in my family is mixed race and none of them have any real problems to report. A few anecdotes.
My son was singing Rap songs at work and his coworker caught him using the N-word twice. She said ’Kyle’s on two strikes so far.’ He had to point out, “You know I’m black, right?”
Like i said, your racism colors everything you perceive.
