Animal worship - veganism

There is a world of difference between trying to protect something (I’ll be a bit generous and generalistic here and say that people are vegans because eating meat and animal products goes against their moral code for a multitude of non-religious reasons) and worshipping it.
Are people who constantly defend their right to eat meat from animals meat-worshippers? I have the feeling that you wouldn’t agree to that…
Veganism COULD be practiced by people who worship animals. Hindus, for example, don’t eat cows, because the cows are holy to them.
Most vegans, though, are protective of the animals, they don’t worship them.
…Wut? Uhm, no, I like the average animal more than the average human, yes, but I’m not a vegan, nor do I worship animals.
