Masturbation being taught in school? In Kindergarten, no less? Damn, my education was sorely lacking as I had none of that and had to figure it out all on my own. I wish I had a teacher in the classroom to teach me what to do and how to do it. My puberty years would have been so much less traumatic.

Correction: they teach them about safe sex and condom use so when the inevitable experimentation occurs, they don't wind up catching STD's or ending up with child due to their sexual curiosity. Carry on with your fail.

My guess: not because of teaching kids to be tolerant of homosexuals, teaching kids about what masturbation is (when does that happen?), or teaching kids about condom use to prevent all of those things.

One of my fundie friends didn't know what it was [We're college freshman] and it was pretty awkward explaining it to her but even more awkward that I never figured out how.

Kids already have a sexual orientation long before they reach 7-8 grade. Sex education doesn't encourage kids to have sex any more that teaching them how to cook teaches them to eat food. In fact, generally speaking, the less educated people are, the younger they tend to start having sex.

Dressing like Mormons, showing proper deference to authority, utilizing Victorian circumspection about sex, not giving into curiosity about certain issues (sex certainly, but mostly certain areas of science--only the areas of science and technology that provide the shit you buy at Wal-Mart, Circuit City, and Best Lots are permissible), and getting a working-class job down at the local plant (which is a lot harder nowadays than it was in earlier decades)

John: Not always. I was utterly asexual until I was 16. But that's another reason to cover all the possibilities -- gay, straight, and bi. Some people don't really have their sexual orientation worked out by age 12.
