Those that burn the US flag should be fined and then shot. So the fine can pay for the bullet and disposal of the body.

Twenty years in uniform, saluting the flag just about daily on average. Risked my life a couple of times for the nation. Raised the flag, lowered the flag, folded the flag. And generally i LIKE to see people make their own choice to salute it, recite the pledge, wear it as a bikini, burn it, or hang it upside down in protest.
Because they're exercising freedoms some of my friends gave their lives to protedt.
You want blind patriotism imposed onto people, try North Korea.
It’s a brightly-colored strip of cloth. Burning it does not damage the liberties it’s supposed to represent. What you’re doing, however, does. You are advocating murder over an act of protest, a clear restriction of free speech. Restricting freedom to preserve a symbol of freedom doesn’t venerate that symbol, it makes a mockery of it.

You are correct sir, it's the recommended way to dispose of the flag period. A far greater offense is to fly a tattered or stained flag which righters do on a regular basis.
"Why are American wingnuts so obsessed with their flag?"
They really aren't, it's a wedge ploy: "we patriotically revere the flag and anyone that doesn't is unAmerican."
Biggest ploy was played by Republicans when Obama got in, They all started wearing little pinned metal flags (made in China) on their suits and insisted the Democrats were unpatriotic for not giving in to the 'new thing'. In rooms with the flag only all over the place, in congress, all meeting halls, offices, hallways and everywhere outside. The righters ate it up, they thought that was a brave stand because they're fucking morons.
Confused?
