Trumps' presidency has been terrible enough that it directly affected my workplace. We have to use our PTO to cover several days the plant will be shut down or else go unpaid.

I've been drinking heavily and toying with a theory that the delusional political hellscape we're seeing in th U.S. right now happened at some point in Africa, leaving not just a divided and rabidly paranoid populace consumed by xenophobia but suddenly rendered completely incapable of trust even within small groups, convinced everyone else plotted against them and actively sabotaging attempts to meaningfully reestablish any semblance of civilization larger or more complex than a village seeing them as any number of nebulous conspirator groups. And that this continued until eventually all that was left was crazed ultra-survivalists the type nowadays have underground bunkers filled with weapons and canned food (In that order of priority) and a stated plan to literally eat their neighbours should whatever disaster they imagine hits.
And these scattered lunatics just devolved, keeping no history and having no plan beyond "me and mine will eat" until they finally forgot first the civilization that crumbled and then the reason they went feral, allowing enough of a recovery to start building towards clan and tribal structures. Then we enter the picture and history repeats.
