Unnamed Bajrang Dal members #fundie theobserverpost.com

On Saturday morning, as a group of Christians walked back from church in Kotamateru village of Odisha’s Malkangiri district, they were ambushed by a mob armed with axes and sticks

Eight of them were seriously injured. All of them are now in hospital

I spoke to Pallab Lima, state general secretary of the Rashtriya Christian Morcha. “They had been threatening us for months,” he said. “Accept Hinduism or face consequences. But these villagers were Christians by birth. They resisted. And this is what happened”

According to Lima, the attackers were members of the Bajrang Dal. “One man managed to call a pastor, who rushed to inform the police,” he told me. “That’s what saved them”

On Sunday, local Christians held a peaceful dharna outside the Malkangiri Superintendent of Police’s office. I was told that they handed over a memorandum demanding protection and accountability

But the police downplayed the violence. Rigan Kinda, inspector at Malkangiri police station, told reporters: “This is a family feud between two brothers — one Christian, one Hindu. Others got involved when an argument broke out after Sunday prayers”

Christian leaders, however, said this narrative is misleading

“It was not a feud. It was a planned attack,” said Bijoy Pusuru, a local Christian leader

Unnamed Hegde Nagar, Bengaluru thugs #fundie #psycho theobserverpost.com

A man named Zameer has alleged that a group of six men attacked him and his friend Wasim in Hegde Nagar, Bengaluru, on Sunday evening. He says the attackers abused them, hit them with a stick, and forced Wasim to chant “Jai Shri Ram”

The incident happened between 4:30 and 5:30 pm near the AJBJ grounds, under the Sampigehalli police station area

Zameer, who works as a mechanic, said he had stopped his vehicle near the ground to relieve himself when the group of men approached him

“They suddenly came up to us and started asking why we were there. Then they began abusing and beating us,” Zameer said in his police complaint

Zameer managed to run away, but his friend Wasim was caught by the attackers

“They hit him with a stick. When he shouted ‘Allah’ in pain, they got angry and told him to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’,” Zameer alleged

The police have registered an FIR and are looking into the case. A police officer said, “We are investigating the complaint. Once the accused are identified, strict action will be taken”

Unnamed parents in Homma #fundie #elitist theobserverpost.com

Nearly all students have been pulled out of a government school in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district after a Dalit woman was appointed as the head cook

The incident took place at the Government Higher Primary School in Homma village. The school originally had 22 students enrolled this year, but now only one student remains. Parents of 21 students have either taken Transfer Certificates (TCs) or applied for them, moving their children to other schools

Sources said that the problem began after a Dalit woman was made the head cook. Many parents were unhappy with her appointment and reportedly stopped their children from eating the Mid-Day Meals at the school. Only 7 out of 22 students used to eat the food

Local residents said the real reason children were withdrawn was caste bias. “They didn’t want their children eating food cooked by a Dalit woman,” one villager told reporters

After the news spread on social media, district officials rushed to the school on Wednesday. They included Chamarajanagar SP B.T. Kavitha, Zilla Panchayat CEO Mona Roat, and education officer Ramachandra Raje Urs

Parents told CEO Mona Roat that they removed their children because of “poor quality teaching” at the school. However, officials said the issue seems more complex

Roat said, “The initial reports suggest education quality was the reason, but we’re now getting different stories. Some parents may have had a problem with the cook’s caste. We are looking into it seriously”

SP Kavitha said, “We will investigate fully. If there was untouchability or caste-based discrimination, strict action will be taken”

Officials managed to convince eight parents to re-enroll their children, but most students are still out. Authorities have promised to assign better teachers and improve the school’s condition

Associate Dean Ravindra Reddy #fundie theobserverpost.com

A Dalit assistant professor at the SV Veterinary University’s Dairy Technology College in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, has alleged caste-based discrimination after his office chair was removed, forcing him to work seated on the floor

Dr. Ravi, who holds a faculty position in the Dairy Technology department, said he returned to his office on Friday after a day’s leave to find his chair missing. He alleged that Associate Dean Ravindra Reddy removed it during a visit to test milk using departmental equipment

Viral images circulating online show Dr. Ravi sitting cross-legged on a white sheet on the floor, working on a computer with wires and documents spread around him. The photos sparked sharp criticism online, with users calling the incident “ridiculous,” “disgusting,” and an example of India’s deep-rooted caste discrimination

When contacted by local Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi, University Dean Nageswara Rao stated that the chair had been reclaimed because it belonged to the DBM (Department of Business Management) section. “Two chairs had been purchased for the DBM department as needed, and since one of them was found in the Dairy Technology department, it was replaced,” Rao said. He added that steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future[…]
The ruling YSR Congress Party criticized Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of remaining silent on the alleged humiliation of a Dalit professor. “Why is he just watching without taking action?” a party spokesperson asked[…]
The incident also renewed debate about the treatment of Dalit faculty and students in Indian universities, especially in the wake of other cases highlighting systemic discrimination in faculty hiring and workplace dynamics

So far, Dr. Ravi has not said whether he plans to file an official complaint. The university has not announced any inquiry into the matter
