JERUSALEM (JTA) — The rate of intermarriage among U.S. Jews is “like a second Holocaust,” Israel’s new minister of education said.

Rafi Peretz made the statement at a Cabinet meeting on July 1, Axios’ Barak Ravid reported Tuesday, citing three people who were in the room.

Peretz, a former chief rabbi of the Israeli army, is head of the Jewish Home party and leader of a united bloc of right-wing parties, accused of having extremists among its ranks.

Peretz said the assimilation of Jews around the world and mostly in the U.S. was “like a second Holocaust,” and also said that due to intermarriages in the last 70 years the Jewish people “lost 6 million people,” according to the report, which added that Peretz’s spokesman confirmed the account.

The July 1 Cabinet meeting included a briefing by Dennis Ross, chairman of the board of the Jewish People Policy Institute, on trends in Jewish communities around the world, especially in North America. The topic of intermarriage came up during the briefing.

Axios reported that Minister of Energy Yuval Steinitz pushed back on Peretz’s remarks and said assimilation is not a critical problem. “First we need to stop disregarding and looking down on Jews in America that see themselves as Jews not only religiously but even more culturally and historically,” he reportedly said.

Not surprised. These are the same idiots who react to fellow humans of the female persuasion the same way vampires react to garlic. They’re view of who’s a Jew is so narrow that it’s hilarious that they’re baffled that their numbers aren’t epic.

Yup, marrying a non-Jew is exactly like being either sent directly to the gas chambers and then be cremated, or be kept alive in appalling conditions, slowly being starved and worked to death!

Last I checked, children born to Jewish mothers are seen as Jewish. So, it’s only bad when Jewish men marry non-Jewish women. (Though, if they are very orthodox, it’s probably only children born to two Jews that are counted…)

This pisses me off so much I'm almost speechless with rage. As Swede pointed out, there's a big fucking difference... these are the same assholes who seem to think they have a lock on suffering, so that even when other countries are using concentration camp like structures to intern minorities they have a collective apoplexy whenever parallels are drawn because that supposedly trivializes the Holocaust and yet this idiot claims intermarriage is the same thing. Fuck him.

I could tell you about the Holocaust.

I happily school the deniers, but the ones who piss me off more are those who believe they have ownership over it. Six million Jews died. 5.5 million other people died too. If some fucking twat waffle can compare intermarriage to the Holocaust then I don't understand why American internment camps, which share a lot more in common with early Nazi interment camps than anyone cares to admit, can't rightly be compared to the earliest phases of what would become the cruel scapegoating of the weak by the strong. (How many Americans believe those detainees have broken the law? The vast majority did not: they're in the US as legitimate Refugee claimants.)

EDIT: yes, I understand the Jews were special targets of the NDSAP. I'm not trivializing that but pointing out Nazis has other targets who were killed in the balance of the slaughter. Whenever I hear the iconic number - 6 million - I mentally correct it: 11.5 million. I'm not in any position to calculate the centuries of culture burned to ash, nor to tell the Jews how to grieve their lasting loss. But Rafi does a disservice to the dead, using them that way, and the Holocaust Museum in Washington was playing political games with the dead when they condemned making historical parallels to the Holocaust when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (rightly) compared conditions at the US internment camps to their much darker counterparts. Cruelty always starts somewhere- too often as conviction.
