Humans are not naturally wired to be empathetic to everyone, we are by nature tribal creatures

We humans, like other primates, are naturally tribal. We’re loyal to those we identify with — by nationality, skin colour or football club — and hostile to those outside in other “tribes”. This empathy for our in-group is the basis of racism as well as patriotism.

It's the basis of almost everything we do. We don't care about helping everyone. We care about helping the group we identify with and often it is a win if we help our group at the expense of others. Humans are naturally aware of scarcity, and due to the competition we want to dismantle any opposing groups.

It is the reason why mob mentality is so common on either side of the political spectrum. Why we can stomach waging war, but would never hurt our fellow country man. Why we can label women/men as something nasty. It's because by demonizing the other group, your group comes out a bit ahead.

People can preach "empathy" all they want, but the human natural order is to be empathetic to those you identify with and can further your cause. Not any random stranger.

There is a natural inclination to have in-groups with either race, gender, nationality, income status, religion you name it. So when demonizing fundamental christians, think first about why you're doing that and what you hope to gain from it. It's almost certainly self serving.
