Does “holding marriage in honour” require being currently married oneself? Usually - especially in conservative Christian morality! - a big part of proper marriage is chastity towards those who you are not married to/who are married not to you.

We don’t legislate your superstition sourcebook.
The law says what it says, you can either justify your faith to it or rationalize it away. But you’re still subject to it.

Honouring does not mean being part of one.
