Im on episode 2 and so far so good. Only spotted one woke additive not found in the games in that theres a non binary character. Why would some fucked up post apocalyptic world have gender sensitivity training to make sure commanding officers respect pronouns?

Why should all postapocalyptic fantasy deny aspects of human reality? Why should a "woke" label chill artistic expression? Why twist as indoctrination what questions your ignorance? Why demand that all games bend to your personal sensitivities, instead of playing those you like?

Because in the Fallout Universe they seem to have settled most modern bigotries well before the bombs fell. I don't know if they even had MLK. Sure, they had a big problem with sinophobia, but that makes sense given that A) They were at war with China, and B) it was an oppressive police state in dire need of some ‘other’ to hate and blame.

No, a non-binary character in Fallout isn't some lore breaker. Them being a part of the BoS, a group infamous for not getting on with non-heteronormative folk, is.

(I mean, Veronica Santangelo's orientation already made her pretty unpopular with the Mojave Chapter, even before her questions got her relegated to boring-ass milk runs.)

But no, LGBTQ+ people in Fallout is not odd or unprecedented. The aforementioned Veronica, Gannon Arcade, a possibly-trans super mutant in the first game, same-sex marriage in the second, a lesbian couple and their adopted son and a gay couple selling weapons in the third, being able to be gay, lesbian, straight, or full on fucking bisexual in New Vegas, being able to sleep with almost any companion regardless of gender in 4 - this shit has roots, son. Stop acting like your imaginary ‘wokie’ enemies have infiltrated your fandom.

to be honest I think that’s more to deal with the Brotherhood’s extreme xenophobia than homophobia, given they do not let anyone into their ranks, especially chapters that are more isolationist (like the Mojave chapters and big part of Veronica’s story details her concerns over such a policy and how its’ likely to destroy the chapter in the end) compared to chapters that are a bit more open to outsiders, since the East Coast Brotherhood lets people in and don’t have any issues with LGBTQ folks whereas Isolationist Chapter have a bit more of a problem purely because that means less folks trying to breed and produce more members.

But the idea that Fallout never had “wokeness” or inclusive concepts towards minimalized groups is absurd and goes all the way back to the first two games made by the original characters.

Why not? Cultures in warzones and hostile environments manage to sustain all sorts of rituals. Compared to nonsense like circumcision and maintaining a priestly class, letting people pick their own pronouns seems obviously harmless…

If someone told me that LGBTQIA+ advocates were false flagging as pronoun-obsessed ranting conservatives in a gambit to discredit the right, I’m not sure how I’d disprove that. Other than making gender norms less rigid or enforceable—which seems like a good thing—what affect on someone’s survival in a post-nuke waste would self-ID pronouns even have?

Post-apocalypse survival is going to be a knife’s-edge situation. They need EVERYONE working together for the max number to survive.
They cannot afford bigotry. They can’t have anyone making suboptimal decisions because the best choice would benefit one or more of ….Them.
They also don’t want the one person who could stop a tragedy to feel ostracized and say ‘Fuck it, let the ______ kill them all.’

They probably don’t have gender sensitivity training but it’s also highly unlikely a commanding officer is going to care as long as they can fight effectively.
During WWII when blacks were really integrated into the US armed forces there were problems among troops stationed in the US but among those in actual combat they got along fine.
