The mayor of Petal, Mississippi has been met with criticism after he expressed his support for police officers following the death of George Floyd. "Why in the world would anyone choose to become a #PoliceOfficer in our society today? #backtheblue #ThinBlueLine," Mayor Hal Marx wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.

While his Twitter account has since been made inactive, presumably in response to the criticism he received, Marx said he "didn't see anything unreasonable" in the video that showed an officer with his knee on Floyd's neck. In the video, Floyd can be heard pleading for his life as he's arrested for an alleged forgery.

"Would be nice to get a few in there that understand resonable force, when it's needed, and don't give the rest of them a bad reputation," someone tweeted at Marx in response to his original tweet.

Mark replied, "If you are talking about the incident in MN, I didn't see anything unreasonable. If you can say you can't breathe, you're breathing. Most likely that man died of overdose or heat attack. Video doesn't show his resistance that got him in that position. Police being crucified."

While the original clip of Floyd's fatal arrest didn't show the moment he was placed in cuffs, surveillance video has since indicated Floyd didn't resist arrest.

"Since we don't know the full story of what happened before the video started, it's impossible to know why the police remained in that position," Marx continued. "Again, the officers were not restricting his breathing." Floyd died on Monday shortly after the video of his arrest was taken.

Doesn't feel nice when you're in a position it's impossible to escape from, I'm sure you'd agree.

Especially when that situation is self-imposed.

It's only your Tweeting rights that have been denied you, OP. As for your escaping the socio-political consequences, as all we Black Lives Matter supporters would say: 'I'm sorry, Hal: I can't let you do that.'

'If you say you can't breathe, you can breathe,' is actually a myth. I know someone on a vent who can't breathe without it, but he can still get words out. If his oxygen line is kinked, he simply becomes more and more groggy. He can still talk. It takes a pulse oximeter to determine whether or not his oxygen levels have dropped below the usual 95%. They can drop into the 50s before he passes out and all the while he can still talk. If he had hypertension, such could trigger a heart attack.

A CCTV camera from before the event shows Floyd was not resisting arrest. Putting a knee on his neck for 9 minutes was excessive force. It wasn't necessary by any stretch of the imagination.

So that they can kill black people with impunity? So that they can harass anyone they want? So that they can wear body armour and carry a gun and feel like a big man?

What happens is there is a reservoir of oxygen that stays in the lungs at most times. The lungs are supposed to be something around 30% full at all times. That is the reservoir that gets used in situations such as having to say “I can’t breathe” when you are suddenly unable to take in air.

Yes, it is absolutely possible to talk and be choking to death in some way at the same time. This is one of the first they make sure you know in elder and disability care. Never assume the person you are caring for isnt choking just because they’re talking.

I’ve said it before … police departments have policies dealing with using a knee as an arrest control technique.

Wrestle a resisting suspect to the ground, and one officer uses a knee in the back as initial control until another can get the suspect properly cuffed, upon which the knee comes off and other control methods are used, with a design to reduce the suspect’s potential to harm themselves and others, and reduced the potential of accidental harm from the police.

Never, at any point, put your knee on someone’s neck. Period. This is in fact an insurance enforced policy. If the department allows a knee in the neck as part of arrest control, or anything else short of fight for survival (yes, exceptions can be made when someone is insisting on a dangerous or lethal fight and the officer cannot gain control), they actually cannot get insured.

Since we’ve now seen the police who killed George Floyd fired & arrested, let’s see Mayor Hal Marx fired as well. I hope he gets run out town by the citizenry.
