Can I just say this is 99% my issue with "representation"?
The bar for "representation" is somewhere between an entire plot line that involves explicitly stating or showing personal details of their sex life that are completely irrelevant, inappropriate, unnecessary, pick one.
And just casually dropping a single line clue about an otherwise irrelevant character you never see again - the ever popular "my wife / my husband" line. UGH
"Now, back to the show!"
It's like product placement in a lot of ways - the forced insertion (giggity) of mandated PR / marketing elements outside of the creative needs of the product. The most obnoxious product placement imaginable. Brad Pitt casually sipping a pepsi in World War Z level obnoxious.
