Re: “Let's stop using libfem language. "Sex Work" is not a thing - the correct term is Prostitution.”
Language matters. I'm appalled at how many young women on this sub are involved in Only Fans, camming and other things that they call "sex work." This is not normal or healthy. Call it what it is, PROSTITUTION. This kind of thing has become shockingly normalized. Calling things what they are and not using euphemisms is the first step in turning this around.

OK, I'll start: You're an asshole.
‘Sex work’ includes not only prostitution, but also being a stripper, a lap dancer or simply posing sexily in photographs.
The quotee mentions ‘camming’, which I assume to be stripping in front of a webcam. That’s not prostitution.
""Sex Work" is not a thing - the correct term is Prostitution.”
Prostitution is oerforming sex acts with someone for money.
So, what do you call having sex with strangers for free? No money, not prostitution.
What to call stripping on stage or on camera? Not "with someone," so the correct term is not prostitution.
What to call, oh, all kinds of shit people do that involves sex, money, strangers, in various configurations, but doesn't quite meet THE DEFINITION OF PROSTITUTION?

Her emotionally-charged shame term.
EDIT:
Hmm. Apparently I should have been reading the thread more carefully. Didn't remember it was @The_Dybbuk who said "words mean things". I thought @Brosenheim was responding to the OP and assumed that he was quoting her. Well, it looks like that's what @Brosenheim thought himself and I just repeated his error. Sorry if I caused any offense. I only intended to point out to @Brosenheim that he had misgendered the OP. I didn't mean to make any negative statements about @The_Dybbuk or make any statement about @The_Dybbuk's gender identity.

If you're going to answer me, please use the reply option in the lower right hand corner under the text box...or at least mention my name.
Prostitution *is* sex work. Erotic dancing is sex work, too, but it's not prostitution. Being an erotic cam girl is also sex work but it's not prostitution either.
They could all be called sex workers.
And I don't think prostitution is a shame term. My problem, which I apparently didn't articulate well, was with trying to get rid of the term, 'sex work' as a catch-all for these various types of *sex workers* and replace it was 'prostitution' whether that fits or not.

I wasn’t answering you, hence why I didn’t hit “reply” and tag your name. I’m referring to the OP, who is blatantly the only person in this conversation upset about words meaning things.
Prostitution shouldn’t be a shame term, but it’s been made one via years and years of conditioning. The fact that people like OP get so upset when a different term is used is indicative of this; they’re not actually mad because “words mean things,” they’re mad because the word they want to use has certain signals attached to it, and the word they’re mad about doesn’t have those same signals. I don’t disagree that in a vacuum prostitution is just a type of sex work, but outside of a vacuum it’s very obvious why OP is so mad about the term “sex work” being used.
ETA: ok I see the problem, I totally thought OP said “words mean things” and you were snarkily turning it back on them, without double checking lol. Now this is just awkward
Confused?
