Once dubbed "America's Dad," Cosby is one of the most prominent victims of leftist cancel culture: although sexual assault allegations against him go as far back as 1965, a time when racist sentiments among leftists were still prevalent in the culture because the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was relatively new, a 2014 standup routine from comedian and actor Hannibal Buress going viral on social media caused the allegations to be brought to mainstream media attention. This led to what appeared to be Cosby's public fall from grace, culminating in a prison sentence in September 2018. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court in June 2021 ordered Cosby's immediate release and overturned a conviction in what apparently was a woke show trial.
