The primary -- or probably the ONLY -- reason for the troubles ailing our world is OUR SIN and our lack of repentance. If we repent...then God will take care of diseases, civil conflicts, and so forth.

My first thought when I found this quote: “why didn’t that work for the Flagellants during the Black Death pandemic?” Medieval authorities emphasized that the pandemic was punishment for sin, needs societal repentance, etc.—-and, of course, treated Galen’s Four Humours theory as sacred writ instead of using evidence-based medicine (it’s the European equivalent of using “Traditional Chinese Medicine” pseudo-treatments like powdered rhino horn to fight COVID). Result: a third of Europe’s population died off. Same thing happened earlier in the Roman Empire under Christian rule during the Justinian Plague.
Fast forward to 2020, and a wide swath of American Christendom on [insert forum here] argue that ANY safety measures are heresy and “liberal.” And vaccines are opposed because they use stem cells and Jesus cares more about fetuses than about all the unvaccinated children who died of polio and smallpox. Is it any wonder the Black Death and Justinian Plague had such a high body count with that mentality?
I wouldn’t mind it so much if the “safety is impious, Christ’s blood and body can’t spread disease” sentiment were niche among the Eastern Orthodox Church—-something only found in Old Calendarist or ROCOR parishes like St. Nicholas. But nooo , it has to be normies who howl in protest that you should risk COVID to take communion, and heaven forbid you use any safety measures like seating unvaccinated parishioners away from the elderly, because that’s impious.
This reminds me of a Baptist, who when long ago I was still living at my parents who raised me as a Jehovah's Witness, asked me: are there any ill people in your congregation? If so you are not in the truth. As Conscience said, it was bullshit, Baptists get sick and die like anyone else. During the pandemic even more of them died than in the general population, for denying science..
You remind me of the Plague Prayers of Mursili II, who was king of the Hittites. Fascinating reading during the pandemic, because they teach you that:
* Epidemics are nothing new.
* Appealing to deities doesn’t help, at all.
Confused?
