Funny, you’ve been scooping every other value out of American culture and ramming a very questionably misshapen version of Jesus into that cavity since the 50’s and that rather consistently makes things worse. Replace sex ed with abstinence only? Teen pregnancy triples. Mandatory prayer? Doesn’t do a thing to stop school shooters but it does inspire a few to visit mosques and synagogues and pride rallies to spread the gospel of the AR15. Want a “moral” leader of infinite authority? You’re worshipping a literal golden idol of a psychopathic career criminal who has explicitly equated himself to Christ - the greatest possible act of blasphemy in your religion - but might as well be the physical manifestation of all human sins and wants the cardinal virtues to be considered an evil that weakens humanity. He’s the most thin skinned vindictive narcissistic failure of a man I’ve ever heard of and he’s constantly actively trying to make excuses to kill people and instigate a civil war. He’s also pretty bent on taking the whole of the world with him.
Up in Canada we’ve been doing a better job separating church and political leadership. Wouldn’t you know it? We’re not the ones dealing with a mass shooting a day, inexplicable and completely irrational contempt for the working poor or a drive to savagely stomp the middle class down to the status of the working poor, clinically insane career criminals in elected positions deliberately burning the country down, (we even finally did something about that fucking weirdo Didulo,) or the religious majority and societal elite being convinced they’re perpetually about to be cannibalized by Satan in the form of minorities and have to throw their weight behind bullying half the population.
We are dealing with a bad case of secondhand ethnonationalists trying so suck our blood we caught like a bad case of crabs that crawled up from the southern nethers but like sexual health we have a much better idea of how to deal with that than prayers and wilful ignorance.
