I do think I have a certain kind of smarts because i do crosswords in ink, but not because others are satisfied by arguments for one or another superstition.

No, I can pretty much make the evaluation all by myself, thanks. Causing unnecessary harm to members of my species based on racist attitudes would qualify anyone for a label of ‘evil,’ in my mind.

I can have PLENTY of self-respect and still see myself as not being the center of everything. I served on four submarines. One person is the CO. One person is the head of each department. And one person mops the forward head. All are critical, but not necessarily the protagonist.
