Want to really complain about it? Try philia, a word that means literally love, and had been used for centuries to refer to love and attraction in a general sense, and sometimes chemical. But in the hands of psychiatrists, always, with no exceptions, refers strictly to sex.

This book probably had primarily positive reviews because up to this point the majority of people who've even heard of it have been ultra-conservatives who age with entire premise. This happens because the common marketing is asking already ultra-conservative publications and websites. Sorry if like how most science fiction and fantasy is marketed almost exclusively through science fiction and fantasy fan publications, and most heavy metal is marketed almost exclusively through metal fan publications. That's why those genres can see such great success when the only people who even know about the authors/bands at all are the few tens or hundreds of thousands worldwide who ever buy it.

Katie might be horrible, but now we're finding out that not all the pro-lifers have been as stupid as we thought, thanks to Alabama. Even part Robertson says the law goes to far, because it doesn't provide an exception in case if take and incest, and that's really been over if the biggest sticking points in the argument over abortion. If she agrees there should be no such exception, then yeah, I'll say sociopath easy. Otherwise, it becomes a question of each instance and what is right in each case.

To say nothing of the fantasy worlds created by Piers Anthony, Roger Zelazny, Phillip Jose Farmer, Jack Chalker, Alan Dean Foster, and the list goes on and on. Tolkein didn’t even bother to take full advantage of the fact that his worlds can be absolutely anything he wants, and though he put in a lot of magic, still had his Middle Earth follow rules very close to our own, while many of those who took up the mantle from him over the next several decades made in some of their own works many worlds that followed their own laws of physics. And used this to create not just terrifying worlds in which their characters struggle, but also very beautiful worlds as well. (In which, very often, their characters struggle!)

And also the science fiction authors, of varying degrees of adherence to hard science, who have also created very beautiful and exciting worlds, certainly not the least of which was Isaac Asimov in his heyday, but also along most of his career Larry Niven was such a great world builder in sci-fi. Niven even created the Ringworld, and that’s going to be hard to ever really beat! More recently Jack McDevitt has been creating various planets and very ancient civilizations for our future explorers to discover!

The only thing that keeps me from giving this a WTF is that despite how unaware of himself he still demonstrates himself to be, he actually speaks some truth here. We’ve all done evil, and if we spend our time judging others for their evil instead of trying to rectify and change our own, then we just go and commit yet another evil and with no good attached. Call someone out for the things they’ve done, yes, but make sure you’re not revelling in your waste.

I’m more tempted to hit the WTF?! button though because of him saying that speaking the truth about someone is worse than speaking a lie. If the truth is so bad, you shouldn’t have done what the truth is, and you should take steps to make it right however you can. Not simply call everyone else hypocrites for knowing what you’ve done and having a problem with it.

Okay, admittedly, actually looking at what these guise are responding to, there’s a legitimate complaint, but then they took it left by turning right and then making up a direction that still won’t ever exist in the future. Especially since a deeper look into it proves it’s more complex than what’s put forward in this meme.

What they’re pissed about, and won’t show in the image, is an 18 year old woman having sex with a 15 year old boy in the back of a car. In the middle of sex, she told him to stop, and it took about 5 seconds for him to get out. She didn’t tell the police, and went on with her day normally, which one witness says is a strong indication of rape trauma, which, well … doesn’t really make sense. The boy got a 15 year sentence, 10 years of it suspended, and 5 years probation to serve the 5 year prison sentence left.

But, take more of a look beyond the meme, such is in the Wikipedia article, and find out there were two boys involved, alleged to have told her she’s not leaving the car until they get what they want. They deny it, may or may not be true, but something seems off about a couple of 15 year old boys with an 18 year old college student. Either the boys or that woman need to be watched very closely, probably all 3.

Personally I think they could stop dividing between boys and girls if they came up with sports that didn’t focus strictly on things that men are already established to have a higher average ability for. Believe it or not, mixed martial arts is the way to go. After all, while many (most) martial art forms are based primarily in power, meaning the bigger stronger fighter almost always wins, there are others that turned what these forms call weakness into strength. If a 5 foot woman practices at a martial art form that focuses on using her lower center of gravity against her opponent, she very greatly increases her chance of success. Also, the bigger and stronger opponent tends to start becoming muscle bound, and isn’t able to strike as quickly anymore. Faster moving opponents can also use that against them, learning to dodge and tire their opponent.

Instead, every sport so many people want to promote has raw physical power being such an important aspect, that if they allowed girls in with the boys, the girls would be outnumbered, and this is somehow considered bad. So boys get one league, girls get another. Nevermind that in school, so many of the kids in both groups will never go past high school organized sports, because no college would bother to accept a barely competent player on the team, and that’s what the vast majority of high school players really are. At this point, they can actually find a much greater parity between boys and girls, because there are enough girls in most schools who can easily exceed the vast majority of boys on those teams, whatever the sport. That’s why almost every high school team has a star or two every season, and professional teams can go years without a real star at all even when they’re top of their league.
