As we reach the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, I wanted to recap just how badly things are going for both sides. Obviously, it's bad for Russia. They won the 2014 war to annex Crimea in one week. Nearly everyone, including me, thought they'd win the 2022 war to annex Donbas quickly too. Boy, was I wrong.
But things are going terribly for "our side" too:
1. Russian troops reportedly suffered huge casualties
during the first weeks of the war as they were not prepared for Ukrainian resistance. But then they changed tactics, and it's the Ukrainians who've been suffering massive losses ever since. The Ukrainian Army appears to be gone. They are clearly enlisting (some say kidnapping) 15-year-olds and 50-year-olds to fight now, the regular soldiers having deserted, been injured, or killed.
