(This happened in 2012, at a livestreamed Street Fighter x Tekken tournament)
“This is Aris,” a voice said on the feed. “If you don’t like onions, you get your sandwich without onions on it, man. This is the fighting game community.” He then stated that sexual harassment and the fighting game community are “one and the same thing.”
The voice belonged to Aris Bakhtanians, the coach of the Tekken team.
“The sexual harassment is part of the culture. If you remove that from the fighting game community, it’s not the fighting game community… it doesn’t make sense to have that attitude. These things have been established for years,” Aris stated. He then noted that making sexual jokes at StarCraft players would be inappropriate, so it’s unfair for anyone to tell fighting game fans they can’t viciously mock women. …
“That’s what you’re trying to do to the fighting game community and it’s not right,” Aris continued. “It’s ethically wrong.” This may be the first time in the history of video games that someone had said that removing sexual harassment is ethically unjust.

In that case, I'll be happy to see your culture destroyed.
This kind of shit needs to be elliminated in video game culture more generally too. I once had someone sexually harassing me in the switch version of Mario Kart 8. They don't even let you write your own text in the between-race messages to other players, but this shithead was changing his nickname to send me lewd messages. It's kinda sad that there are so many people like that out there.
the fighting game community
The fighting game community? Sounds like an interesting crowd. I’ve never understood fighting for leisure in the first place, at least not full contact fighting like boxing where the object is to hurt another person. But physical fighting via fake game characters using a keyboard sounds pretty wuss. Poindexter level wuss. And using sexual harassment in the process kind of doubles the wuss factor.
Perhaps these supermen should go out and do something that demands personal courage, like pissing their name in the snow.
Anna Williams. Michelle Chang. Nina Williams. Asuka Kazama, to name but a few.

Just the first photo alone in the above Wiki entry kinda puts the beatdown on your 'argument'.
If - via said photo at E3 in 2012 - no less than Namco disagrees , ergo...!
...otherwise why did they include female characters in your precious game?! [/Chun-Li*, Morrigan Aensland]
Further proof that you can't go wrong with arcade games by Namco: from "Pac-Man" to "Galaxian IV: Attack of the Zolgear".

Chun-Li (春麗, also チュン・リー Chun Rī, simplified Chinese: 春丽; traditional Chinese: 春麗; pinyin: Chūn Lì) is a character in Capcom's Street Fighter series. The first female fighter of any fighting game franchise , she made her first appearance in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior in 1991
You fucking poindexters should get shamed out of any contact with women whatsoever. Fuck you, fuck you you fucking freakshow shithead, Aris…or should I say ANUS. ANUS Bakhtanians. That is his name now. His name is fucking ANUS.
Because that’s what he’s using to talk.
@checkmate
Did some real life dueling, have some scars to prove, been to Ukraine a couple times, me and my gladius sword. Yes, they’re pathetic as all fuck, not even the real duelists, getting real world injuries, you know, for real, being in there for guts, blood and glory are not even close to their misoginy. Wonder why…

Normally one would use a gamepad or joystick, rather than a keyboard. And sure it's not in any way comparable to a real fight, but it's not much different than people competing at, say, chess or bridge or darts or bowling. Are those for wusses too?
Then we’ll destroy the culture and replace it with a culture that doesn’t have sexual harassment as part of it. “We’ve always done it that way” is NOT a good enough reason to continue doing it that way, and you can be a pro player without being a misogynist ass. If you really think “it’s traditional so it’s okay” is valid, then prove it by eating some traditional Casu marzu cheese.
What “gets” me is these horrid loudmouths being the “face” of gamers everywhere. I’m sure plenty of gamers are good people who enjoy gaming but they insist on being silent. It’s high time that the good apples be as obnoxiously loud as the bad apples.
Same with fandoms, law enforcement, etc.
Likewise “White Hat” message board brigades who descend upon social media accounts of harassed people to defend them and tell the harassers to eat crow.
I imagine nobody does this because they’re scared to be harassed themselves and….in the case of cops….get treated like Serpico, lose their jobs or worse.
However; If the harassers can pull crap while staying anonymous and untouchable, why not good people. Surely a good person can learn all the hacking and “stay anonymous” tricks of the trade.
Time for a White Hat Hacker Revolution in the Name of Freedom, Human Rights and Democracy!
Y’know, I think society is way too hung up about sex, and I’m all for sex becoming a part of everyday life and activities, but not harassment .
Start a new fighting game league, and make it clear in the rules that sexually explicit taunts and behavior are allowed. Let anyone who’s interested walk into it with eyes open. And leave it as part of THAT league, so anyone who DOESN’T want to take part in that kind of behavior won’t have to deal with it in the other leagues.
Don’t force it on EVERYONE.

Sorry, Spuki. I prefer to be silent, because being loud in crowds and such isn’t really my style. As I said above, I don’t like to play multiplayer games, especially online multiplayer games, and it’s because to do so I’d have to deal with other people.
@SpukiKitty
I’m sorry Spuki, but you’re outta your deph here. There really isn’t a single “gamer community” just like there isn’t a single “nerd culture”. Each game, each genre, each series has their own fandoms, often with completely different vibes and rules.
I for one simply don’t give a whole fuck about what goes on in the incel infested FromSoft fandom, I’m a Paradox gal and the games they release, as well as their fandoms tend to be as progressive, as they are inclusive and rational. I’m sorry if this dissapoints you but no, I will not go publicly yelling and nagging and bleating like a cretin about a bunch of circlejerking dipshits, just because they are such and exist within some broadly defined “gamer” culture. It shouldn’t be necessary, it shouldn’t be demanded and it’s not gonna do anything else other than give those more masturbatory fuel in the form of a “triggurd librul”.
@ Skide & SpukiKitty
Agree with Skide on the fragmentation of the gamers communities. They think they are tough guys, because they can combo moves in a given game. They lack the self-awareness to tell themselves that they are not their characters of choice.
On the other hand, you have games like the Paradox games which usually have more open communities (I play Stellaris.). In general, coop games end up with less toxic communities (like Monster Hunter, been playing the franchise since Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, can’t wait for Monster Hunter World Iceborne), albeit with some exception (World of Tanks, bad players are usually toxic because the good players will not cover for their mistakes and the very good players look down on less skilled players down their noses. For context, I am a reasonably good player, so I see the behaviour on both sides.).
@Spacewyrm
chess or bridge or darts or bowling. Are those for wusses too?
No. I was refering to the fake-fighters who have the self-image of a tough “he-man” simply because they can move a joystick with their oh so ”supple wrist” (Pinball Wizard reference). I assume that the sexual harassment mentioned in the OP has its origins there, at least in part. I’m not aware of chess, bridge, or darts players or bowlers who mistake their prowess in their game with an equal prowess in their life.
@checkmate :
OK. The way you phrased it made me think you were attacking people who like fighting games more generally. I happen to be one of those people. I'm not too good at most of them, though. Actually, I like just about any type of video game.
"The sexual harassment is part of the culture. If you remove that from the fighting game community, it’s not the fighting game community…"
Once upon a time, slavery was part of the culture of the colonies, then the 13 original states of America. We did away with slavery. We still have America.
Once upon a time, outdoor toilets were part of the culture of America. Then we got flushing toilets. We still have America.
Cultures change. Humans (at least the adults) move on. Roll with it, deal with it, fuckery doesn't get special dispensation or protection for being 'cultural.' It's just widespread fuckery.
Confused?
