Oh, shock horror, just 16% white!
That means that 16 in one hundred humans have to coexist with 84 in one hundred other humans! Imagine that!

All cities of any size have seen the disappearance of retail from downtown areas. The businesses started moving to the suburbs in the 1960s, lured by free parking and lower rents in new shopping centers. Around here, there are lots of new apartment/condo buildings going up downtown, but a big problem in convincing people to move in is the lack of basics such as grocery stores and gas stations close by. High end fashion stores, still there, but even the major department stores have left. Racists like to blame it on increased minority numbers, but I think in many cases it’s the chicken-and-egg question of which came first.

The Mississippi Republicans made their opinion of Jackson clear with this water crisis that’s been going on since February. Racism is alive and well in Mississippi.

While I’m not familiar with this city in particular, it sounds like you’re confusing cause with effect.

See, black people are usually dirt poor, and dirt poor people move to places where the property values have already dropped like a rock. So it didn’t go bad because black people moved in, black people moved in because it went bad. (I know, I know, it probably sounds racist to say it like that, but I can’t think of any better way to phrase it.)

I mean, at some point in the process there being “too many black people moving in” might have also triggered a white flight among racists with money, but that counts more for “white people fucking things up unecessarily” than anything else.
