Not to be offense but why do we still not consider mercy killing people with extremely severe retardation?
I was sitting in an office at a local school and I witnessed a staff member spend 30 minutes trying to move a spitting smelly staggering adult who couldn't walk. He couldn't talk either, just screamed Disney VHS quotes. Why is he accommodated so well into society that we support him completely from when he is born until he dies, never havin contributed once to society?

Usually societies do not because simply murdering people who aren't "useful" is considered barbaric and immoral.

There are people who advocate mercy killings in the case of severe pain, terminal illness, etc. But that requires informed consent. While someone like the OP describes may wish they were dead, it is unlikely they can give informed consent. So we don't murder them.

I think that this is a common question that in itself doesn’t indicate fundies. (While the last part does) It’s important to teach people about the importance of live and that we just don’t kill people like tilver said.

I am for preventing major birthdefects by testing and such but not for the killing of living people

Because human life is precious. Someone's life not contributing or useful doesn't make them any less valuable.

Speaking for your personal interest, do you want to live in a society where human lives could be discarded because they were deemed to be of no use for everyone?

Hey, why kill them when they can provide entertainment? From the 15th century on and particularly during Victorian times, the insane asylum commonly called Bedlam (Bethlehem Royal Hospital, now home to the Imperial War Museum – go figure) was opened to tourists who paid to go through and laugh at the antics of the inmates.

I can see that from a purely scientific POV-cold, hard science or eugenics- but FFS, have a shred of humanity. His life is probably lousy enough already, & society as a whole has to support republican imbeciles & bible majini-neither of which contribute anything useful. I’d prefer the mentally/physically disabled over the malevolent any day.

Holy crap even the Nazis only advocated for sterilization for the disabled. How does it feel to be worse than Nazis?

I haven’t read the whole thing, so not sure if it’s mentioned in there, but I’m pretty sure that in the early days of the Nazi regime they had publicly advocated sterilization, but later moved on to direct murder. I’m not sure if the public advocacy for simple sterilization was genuine and then things went much, or if that was just their cover for what they planned all along. Either way, Nazi Germany’s eugenics programs all came down to mass murder around the time the UK had finally declared war on Germany, and it appears the Allies hadn’t really been getting a good glimpse of how bad things had gotten until finally invading mainland Europe.

Yeah I saw something in a documentary about the "Rhineland Bastards" where they were interviewing a victim and he mentioned the lack of anesthesia.

The sterilization program was real - it was the public face of their experimentation program, which fairly quickly morphed into their forced euthanasia program.
