That’s NOT what they are, dearie. If the US liberals were in Sweden, we’d call them conservatives. I don’t really know what we’d call the US conservatives. Even-more-conservatives, perhaps, or almost-fascists.
I Sweden, we have two conservative parties, two liberal parties, one environmentalist party and two socialist parties. Oh, and a Nazi-light party. We used to have a communist party when I was young. Compared with Stalinism or Maoism, our communist party was fairly “liberal”. Fewer and fewer people wanted the communist part of it, and in time they cut that part and are now just the Left-Wing Party.
Center-liberalism, sprinkled with socialism, is what CREATED Western Civilization, you silly bint!
Neo-liberalism (that turned into hard-core conservatism) with horrible people like Thatcher and Reagan, and Milton Friedman, began destroying the Middle Class. Today’s conservatives are eager to put the last nail in the coffin…
Conservatism is a remnant from before the enlightenment, people who only look backwards, walk backwards, think backwards. Conservatism has fought against EVERY progressive item that helped form our Western Civilization:
Voting rights for non-land-owning white men? NAH!
Stopping child labor? NAH!
Women’s right to own property and inherit? NAH!
Five-day working week? NAH!
And so on and so forth…
