Adding censorship ruins the game and the character.
I don't give a shit if it is toggleable. It limits how brutal Wolverine can be with just the idea.
This is isn't a game for Wolverine fans. It is a game for as wide an audience as possible, which translates to a game for nobody.

So, basically people can customize their play experience to an extent, which you experience as some sort of soft censorship just because others can play the game differently, which makes it a game for “no one”? That sounds like a you issue.
This doesn’t sound like a case of catering to the lowest common denominator, it’s catering to multiple denominators.

“Samurai Spirits”: the ‘white’ given off by characters in that game, as opposed to “Samurai Shodown”. An MVS to AES adapter.
It can be turned to ‘red’ in just the uniBIOS settings of a SNK Neo-Geo, OP.
Speaking about “censoring” violence in video games…
I was never and still really ain’t into fighting games, but I remember Mortal Kombat, a famous franchise that is still going on today. One of the legendary things about it was on the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive to those across the pond) version, there was the “blood code”….if you pressed the right buttons on your controller, you could restore the bloodletting to what the arcade version featured. So that would be “censorship” by this person’s standards I guess?
And also, wait, I just realized something….I looked up the code, and the sequence of buttons to press is ABACABB. Abacab? Genesis??? That can’t be a coincidence, can it? lol
A game for as wide an audience as possible just means the creators want to make as much money as possible. Which is entirely understandable.

It was a surprise to me to hear that the SNK Neo-Geo AES console is about to be reissued. And apart from HDMI output, is exactly the same as the 90s original. This new one is compatible with all the old cartridges, including the post-2004 homebrew games: and even the MVS-AES adapter(s) will work.
In Soviet “Samurai Shodown” OP, the likes of Haohmaru, Galford & Nakoruru don’t give a shit about you.
