As a person living in the real world, and not in the world of reality show people or “the-nerd-gets-the-girl” movies, I’ve never seen this “hypergamy” in real life.
It’s a fact that men earn more money than women, in general, even for the same type of jobs, so men in most relationships do earn more than their partner. But in order to earn the same, women would have to “marry down”, to men with lower social status, ambition, education level, etc. Considering that women have to work twice as hard to be seen as almost as good, those men would be much, much lower than the women.
No, men don’t have to outearn women for any rational reason. Men DO outearn women due to patriarchy.
I bet the empowered women want someone with similar interests, communication skills, grasp of current affairs, etc, that the education level is much more important than the earning level.
Oh, and they will probably call on the men to STEP OUT OF their gender roles, and take their half of the responsibility for child-care, for the good of birth and marriage rates. 50 percent parental leave, 50 percent caring for sick children, 50 percent of kindergarten drop-off and pick-ups, 50 percent of trying to make the kids go to sleep at night. The day to day struggle of fixing the life-puzzle is more important than extra dollars in the wage-envelope.
Male happiness has been prioritized for centuries, it’s about time women had a piece of the cake too. And yes, it IS a PIECE of the cake; as soon as women reach 30 percent of anything (power, speaking time, salary), misogynistic men start bleating that WOMEN ARE TAKING OVER EVERYWHERE!!! You’ll have a hard time calling out women for wanting 40 percent of the power, dearie.
Affirmative action is simply reducing the affirmative action that men have had for centuries, just by being born male. Now they have to compete under the same rules as everyone else. It’s not really harder for boys, it’s just as hard as everyone else has had it until now.
My husband earns more than I do, but not that much. Considering that he’s an engineer and I’m a transport planner, he ought to earn about a thousand dollars more than I do. He doesn’t. In periods during our 32-year relationship, I have earned more than he has. It doesn’t matter to either of us, we have joint economy anyway.
It’s not that women WANT these things. Most men ARE taller than most women, and they also make more money than most women. Men in general mature later than women, or are allowed to be childish longer, so they are older when they are ready to have a steady relationship and start a family.
Women don’t cook at all? Nobody told me that! I do almost all cooking, even on days when I work and he’s on vacation (he is able to take more vacation days than I). Is being in a kitchen as a person with a dong awful and demeaning? If not; what are you complaining about?
Women have been shutting the fuck up and stood back and never stood up for our rights, for centuries. Some who don’t to do that (and have the wrong kind of men) are beaten to death, even today.
I’ve heard more men talking about how big their dicks are, than I have heard women discussing the bigness of their men’s dicks. To a woman, it’s not the size that matters, it’s what you do with it that counts.
You’re a girl? How come you think and write like an “incel” man, then?
Women outearn men? Where? Women in general work about one hour for free, every day, in comparison with men’s salaries.
Most high-school sweethearts end their relationships long before high-school is over. Sure, it might be nice to have one, but it’s fairly insignificant to your life as a whole.
Loss of skin elasticity? That happens much later, in your 30’s or 40’s. And it happens to men equally.
I sometimes observe a disturbing tendency towards condescension among women. Not because my friends are bad people, but because it frustrates them.
True, better educated men may also be condescending, but the dynamics are different and the effects often innocuous.
You are used to the latter, but not the first, that’s all.
