Part of the joke of all in the family was making Archie suffer as the world around him didn't match his bubble and the bubble starts to pop. He wasn't the hero. That show was very progressive for it's time and used a character like Archie as a perspective. Change is happening and some people won't like it but they have to deal with it anyway.
