Atheism wasn’t so much a choice, it was more the fact that religion made less and less sense, the more I learned about it all, until there was nothing left.
7. Daniel Radcliffe seems like a fun and knowledgeable person (from what I saw of him on QI), and he’s alive. I’d rather hang out with him, than with two dead guys.
3. As atheists, hubby and me have chosen each other freely. We love each other for who and what we are, and we stay together because we want to, not because some deity told us divorce is prohibited. Neither of us are gel-haired, neither of us have skinny jeans, neither has ever lived in a basement. We do have a basement in our house though, and we plan to do up the rec room as a movie-room, with a projector and reclining chairs with drink-holders in the arm-rest, and book-cases filled with Blu-Rays and DVD’s lining the walls. Our rock isn’t lonely, it’s got seven buddies and a tiny room-mate, and the Sun is not meaningless; it’s an enormously powerful energy source.
2. My college professors? I left school 30 years ago. One of my younger brothers and both my sisters-in-law are teachers. I don’t know if they are atheists or not, as it’s none of my business. What’s wrong with grey hair? You’ll be grey-haired too, if you’re lucky (I have three younger colleagues who are completely bald). I’d say many of the class-buddies of the student you’re addressing are also siding with the teachers on the issue of religion. The higher your education, the higher the chance of you being atheist, after all.
When the whole 60’s thing happened, I was newborn. I barely made it into the 60’s, only four months left of it when I arrived. I don’t know about that Tony dude, but I’d love to have Professor Brian Cox as teacher, not that I’d understand most of what he’d say, but he’s soooo cool when he’s on QI. Oh, and he’s not old, he’s just one year older than I am. And what about Stephen Fry as a teacher? He’s a bit old, but seems young in mind.
1. Atheists don’t contribute to the overpopulation and pollution of the Earth as much as you do; is that what you meant? For my own part, I’m involuntary childless, fairly happy, and have already lived twenty years longer than my grandfather did, who died shortly after my father was born. Less sex? I can have sex several times a day, if I wanted to, with no contraceptives. Most people in Sweden are non-religious, so I’d have to search hard for those “religious counterparts”.
I didn’t think atheism was cool, or uncool for that matter. The coolness factor of it simply didn’t factor in me becoming atheist, like I said in the beginning.
Actually, I’d guess that you are likely to find those old grey-haired tweedy types in the Religious corner in my country. How cool is religion now, dolt?
