When I moved to Europe, it took me about all of 32,4 seconds to get used to metric. I remember when the Euro was introduced as cash. In Germany the government allowed a 3 month transition period for both currencies, after which stores were expected to accept only Euros. People were bitching “OMG, only three months? That will never work!” And one asshole in front of me in line at the grocery store: “fuck the Euro, I’m using D-Marks up until the last day!” Well, I predicted the D-Mark would totally disappear within ten days. Since after the starting day the ATMs only dispensed Euros, it turned out to be 5-6 days. After that nobody had D-Marks, and if you found some somewhere, they were like last week’s bread. That was about 20 years ago, meaning anybody younger than, say, 25 probably never saw a D-Mark, and couldn’t care less about it.

Ok, beside all the crazy in the post, I have a pet peeve here. “Vid” is three letters. “Video” is five. Is it really necessary to abbreviate everything? Is that supposed to sound hip and cool? It doesn’t. I don’t get it. By writing “vid” you save two whole letters. Why not just write “video” like a normal, educated human being?

First, if you’re an American, you probably couldn’t find the Netherlands on a map even if all other countries were blackened out; second, I doubt you have any skills the Dutch would want; and third, I doubt many Dutch will be breaking out in tears when they hear you won’t be coming.

I looked through a number of “Btuyvesant”’s posts. If he ever were to travel to the Netherlands, he’d probably have a heart attack within hours. He’d be shocked by the socially tolerant, inclusive, well educated, multi-lingual society with top notch health service (“ObamaCare” on steroids), overly excellent public transportation, bike paths EVERYWHERE, etc. etc.

Subjectively thinking people always want to see the questions that were asked before they draw conclusions from the answers. Define “satisfaction”. If you’re not expecting very much, then you’re likely to be satisfied with very little. So what did the study explore? Frequency, positions, orgasms, oral, locations, role games, fantasies, toys? How were expectations evaluated? If a pious Christian couple thinks once a month with preparatory prayer, lights out, and intent of pregnancy is satisfactory, can that really be used for comparison?

Thank you for reminding me. My grandmother was in the navy following, WWI in the late 1920s-30s. Yes, military personnel, not a civilian. She was a secretary at staff headquarters. She had a military rank and a wore uniform. And although she, of course, never saw any kind of combat, which would have been impossible back then, she was wounded while on active duty: a large piece of office equipment fell on her. No purple heart, but she was considered an injured veteran and when she died we got a formal letter from the President.

I think a lot of David’s ranting shows how little he knows about the world. Watching the steel guitar video I linked above, I was thinking about how he’s probably unaware of the fact, or just doesn’t care, that all the clothes he was wearing were probably made by women and young girls in sweat shops in India or Bangladesh, people who have to work 12-14 hours a day so they won’t starve. His world view assumes that the “man in the house” can earn enough money so his wife can spend all day in the kitchen baking cakes and pastery. And all the daughters have to do is go to the bake sale at the local Independent Baptist Church to find a God fearing hubby. Fuck it, I hate the South, at least that aspect of it. I think all Southerners should be forced to do two or three years of factory work in non-English speaking countries, alone, facing the realities of life outside of their stupid little whitey white white Southern town. And take off that stupid baseball hat indoors. Geez.
