Instead, it transforms hundreds of teens in unpredictable ways.

I vaguely recall this one writer, back in the Sixties, who framed the Civil Rights movement as “superpeople using their abilities to protect a world that hates and fears them.” This writer even included expies of both Malcolm X and MLK, but as opposing demagogues bickering about whether to use their powers to help people, or rule them.

Then there was the anti-nuke comic about the scientist who turned into a rage monster, or the anti-Communist comic about the warmongering arms dealer with the suit of armour, or that one about the lower-middle class kid from Queens who walked on walls and couldn't make rent payments because Capitalism.

These fuckers spent their youth reading Richie Fucking Rich and thought that was the whole of the medium. Non-Cis/LGBTQ+ characters and creators aren't new to comics; Northstar, Coagula, Rainmaker; on the creators side, Phil Jimenez and Maddie Blaustein come to mind. But these people want to pretend that only people lock-step like them contribute anything to culture. What grey and empty worlds they choose to live in.

If the use, by an author, of pronouns is enough to be a dealbreaker for consuming cultural products then I can’t do anything for you.
