We don't see enough of that today. Television has been promoting slamming doors in Dad's face, sassing Mom, and disrespecting parents for decades. If you've been watching Tv, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Kids are shown bad-mouthing their parents, especially the father, for 25 minutes of a 30 minute sitcom show, and then for the last 30 seconds they'll show the parent correcting their child's ungodly disrespectful behavior. I'll tell you, if I sassed my father (or my mother), I'd be laying on the ground in 5 seconds after his big ole hand came up alongside my head. I praise God for my Dad for doing that! I hated it at the time, but my father knocked the fear of God into me! A judge would have to take my children away, before I would ever allow one of my kids to sass me, I'll knock their butt to the ground!

So? The kid still gets a reprimand and learns an aesop in the end. Are you saying you prefer watching 30 minutes of beatings? That’s both sadistic and it takes up the show! There’s no room for a plot.

As corn-dog as many of those old wholesome family sitcoms tended to be, at least they were presented as an ideal for families to emulate. Patience and a good strong lecture will get you far and even The Cleavers (for all the Righties’ idolizing them as ‘The Ideal Family’) were far more nurturing, and “LIBERAL” than your idea of parenting.

The point of discipline is to TEACH. A kid learns squat if all they learn is “Obey or get hit”. That teaches zilch about what they did wrong and why.

An overly strict parent will only make the child’s disobedience underground. The kid will sneak around and will never turn to you for guidance, advice, or to tell something that’s both important and sensitive. It will backfire in the long run.

A parent shouldn’t be a “friend” but they should still be “friendly” while still instilling good values and behavior.

Eventually to the railway station to get the train back to Hull & finally returning home.

Many parents do not deserve “respect” as you call it. There is a difference between respect & civility. Civility should be a given, respect is earned. If you treat your kids as house pets that walk upright, they will quickly grow to hate you. I was lucky enough to have escaped growing up in that environment, but I witnessed it dozens of times. Treat your kids as individual people, & they will grow up functional. Do the opposite, & they’ll be on the path to smack habits, sleeping around & mental problems.

If my dad saw your dad beating his kid, he’d be furious! In Sweden, it’s illegal to beat children, and my dad was one of many engaged in creating this law in the 70’s. He has also been engaged in the international Convention of the Rights of the Child. I praise whatever power that be for MY dad, for being an advocate for children, against abusive and/or molesting parents.

You’d probably like the Muslim standard of dress, EXCEPT that in Middle Eastern countries, women have been wearing trousers long before it was acceptable in the West. Usually what we call harem pants, quite baggy, but comfortable and practical.

Finally, my parents weren’t perfect in many ways, but THANK THE GODDESS I didn’t have a tyrant like you, for a father.
