Donald Trump Says He Wants 'Ownership' of Greenland Because It's 'Psychologically Important for Me'

[...]

During a two-hour sit-down with multiple Times reporters on Jan. 7, Trump was questioned about why he won't just send more American troops to Greenland — which is legal under a Cold War–era agreement — if his goal is to fend off foreign threats. The president replied by saying that he won't feel comfortable unless he owns the island.

"Why is ownership important here?" Times national security correspondent David E. Sanger asked.

"Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success," Trump, 79, replied. "I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do, whether you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document, that you can have a base."

White House correspondent Katie Rogers — whom Trump recently called "ugly, both inside and out" for writing a story about his age — chimed in to ask, "Psychologically important to you or to the United States?"

“Psychologically important for me," Trump answered. "Now, maybe another president would feel differently, but so far I’ve been right about everything."

Trump also told the Times that he isn’t opposed to using nuclear force if he “needed it” to take over the Arctic island but that “it might upset NATO," since the island is a self-governing territory of NATO member country Denmark.

“We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not, because if we don’t do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we’re not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor,” Trump [said].

The U.S. president — who claims he now "runs" Venezuela [...] and has since threatened additional nations — told the paper in an article published on Jan. 8 that just "one thing" stands in the way of him and world dominance.

"My own morality. My own mind," he said. "It’s the only thing that can stop me.”

Megyn Kelly #wingnut #god-complex people.com

Megyn Kelly said there are times when she still looks to the late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk for advice following his death in September

Speaking to far-right activist Jack Posobiec at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest in Phoenix on Friday, Dec. 19, Kelly, 55, mentioned Erika Kirk's recent sit-down with conservative podcaster Candace Owens, claiming that Erika had called her to ask if she wanted to moderate the conversation

Erika, 37, and Owens, 36, met on Monday, Dec. 15, and ended up having a 4 1/2-hour-long discussion[…]
Kelly spoke about the supposed "feud" between Erika and Owens during her SiriusXM show last week, insisting, "It's been going on now for a while," before giving her take on the whole thing

She then said during Friday's TPUSA event, “I've prayed so many times to Charlie, and to God, to give me the right guidance on how to handle this whole thing…" mentioning that there has been a "fracture" within the conservative party amid the tensions

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. #ableist #dunning-kruger people.com

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the secretary of health and human services, has come under fire for remarks made during his first press conference since being appointed to the role by President Donald Trump

Responding to a new study by the CDC that found 3% of children in the U.S. have autism, Kennedy said the rise in diagnoses constitutes an “epidemic” and vowed to identify the “environmental causes” responsible for the disorder

Kennedy, who has previously promoted a scientifically debunked claim that autism is caused by vaccines, denied that the uptick in diagnoses can be explained by experts learning more about the disorder

“One of the things that I think that we need to move away from today is this ideology that…the autism prevalence increase, the relentless increases, are simply artifacts of better diagnoses, better recognition or changing diagnostic criteria,” he said. “This epidemic denial has become a feature in mainstream media”

Kennedy is also facing backlash for the stark, yet demonstrably false, claims he made about life for children who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder

“Autism destroys families, and more importantly, it destroys our greatest resource, which is our children. These are children who should not be suffering like this,” he said. “These are kids who will never pay taxes. They'll never hold a job. They'll never play baseball. They'll never write a poem. They'll never go out on a date. Many of them will never use a toilet unassisted”

On April 15, following the CDC report, Kennedy said in a statement that the HHS hopes to have “answers” by September

Disagreeing with someone's political and social ideologies does not in anyway automatically make them an extremist. I'd like Ms. Phillips to tell us, just how many segments of his radio show have you listened to? Just how many of his articles or books have you read? Just how many PragerU videos have you watched? I'm going to guess, not any. That Mr. prager's rational views on religion, politics and social issues differ from yours does not make him an extremist. You've betrayed your journalistic integrity for falling into the name calling trap of someone with whom you disagree or, know anything about.

This very successful truth sharer is seriously hospitalized and you want to lambast him! This is not an agenda, it’s a report on accident that is quite serious but you want to label the one suffering. It’s okay, we get you and we know where the true Light comes from.

May Dennis Prager have a speedy recovery in all of the best health. B’H’

Wow… you really like to label people.
Dennis Prager is not woke progressive pro-socialist msn.
He is conservative, but it doesn’t make him “Far right” 🙄🙄🙄
No everyone is ho disagrees with far left is automatically far right.

Using the terms “far right” and “staunch” to describe Dennis Prager are judgmental and inaccurate. He believes in facts and he reports them. People may not agree with him and they may not like facts, but he know what he is talking about. Rather than filing this story under politics, you should file it under opinion.

He's not far right. He's just a conservative. He deserves a lot of respect because he's a genuinely good man, regardless of your politics. [...]

Lil Pump #racist people.com

Lil Pump‘s references to Asian culture in his upcoming track have struck many fans as racist.

The 18-year-old rapper, whose real name is Gazzy Garcia, posted a preview of his new song, “Butterfly Doors,” on Instagram on Monday, and many of his followers were immediately outraged by the lyrics and one particular gesture he made during the clip.

While reciting the line, “They call me Yao Ming ’cause my eyes real low,” Lil Pump stretched his eyes with his two pointer fingers. After he did it twice, he also rapped, “Ching chong.”

The Miami native captioned the video, which he also posted to Twitter, “BUTTERFLY DOORS COMMENT IF I SHOULD DIS.”

On Twitter, followers immediately decried the material as racist.

“I was giving this a chance until I heard the ching chong ad lib,” commented one user.

“Not cool,” simply wrote another.

“Ching chong excuse me what,” wrote a third with a screenshot of the Colombian-American making the problematic face.

Comedian and Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina also called out the rapper in a since-deleted tweet. According to multiple outlets, she wrote: “Always nice to hear a new song with a Ching Chong adlib. Guess it’s better than ‘eyes chink’ like some other verses I’ve heard. But can we at least think of some more creative racist epithets? @lilpump.”

Lil Pump has yet to acknowledge the backlash to the song. His reps did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Tammy Samour #fundie people.com

A Texas mother is expressing outrage this week after her 7-year-old daughter returned from school with Henna dye on the backs of her hands, because of the body art's connection to the Hindu and Muslim religions.

For Seabrook resident Tammy Samour, this year's Christmas has been sullied by the presence of Henna art on her daughter Leah's hands, reports KHOU.

"We tried to get it off and it didn’t budge," Samour told the Texas news station.

"It's upsetting to go through Christmas with another religion's celebratory symbolism all over my daughter's hands," she added.

Leah's hands were decorated during a multicultural event staged at her school, Ed White Elementary in Houston, according to the report.

Kirk Cameron #fundie people.com

"Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is The Origin of Species," Cameron tells PEOPLE. "We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith."
