"The world should also listen to this message that they should not open [immigration] cases for Afghans under the impression that their lives are at risk here," Amir Khan Muttaqi, Taliban acting foreign minister, said on Tuesday.
"They should not hurt Afghanistan's talents, Afghanistan's scientific cadres and Afghanistan's prides, and should not take them out of this country."

On one hand, a brain drain can make it difficult to economically compete with other countries.
On another hand, if you’re not actually giving your talented people opportunities to be effective, or you’re actively putting some of their lives in danger and/or forcing them into hiding due to bigotry, then you’re not going to be making good use of their talents anyway.
On third hand… Afghanistan? International recognition aside, more like a few allied city-states and dozens of largely autonomous clan-holds than a fully coherent country. That seems like a bigger barrier to economic competition than a brain drain.
Not my problem, you’ve made your country hell for your own. You gave no sway here and we shall accept all of yours desiring safety and freedom. The Freedom of the indivdual must always come before the masses comfort and opinion. Unless you are fully prepared to instantly grant your citizens freedom they would have enjoyed in most north american nations, just fucking give up, before we dump some white phosphorous on your goat-fucking asses.
@Zinnia
On one hand? Really? What about the actual people, individual sapients wanting out of this religious HELL? Why should they be subjected to the whims of some cavemen fascists? We can’t build a truly free and truly advanced society until each and every one who wishes to join it, is rescued to do so.
And by napalm, drone strikes and full on invasions we could have had this picture of the world, instead we have oil campaigns, allowing cromwellian shit into the US gov, because the lot of you would not push for the anti-religious angle when your fucking nation was founded. If only all that power was used for individual freedom when it could have been… A world forced into the democracy and respect for minorities at the expense of their own neck on the line. A world where the fascists need to hide and plot, for any mention of nationalism gets you into a police probe.
If it takes a whole nation dead, to protect one queer person, the price of their own deaths is upon them. If it takes a whole fleet to rescue a queer citizen wrongfully imprisoned, then it should be so!
While it was elsewhere - Pakistan - what happened to Malala Yousafzai.
Taliban.
Denied her right to an education - via their 7.62mm suspension from that country’s schools - it was medical facilities & experts elsewhere which ensured that wasn’t permanent.
Continuing to be un hurt here in Britain, now at a University looking at the beginning of a bright future instead of the end of an AK-47, here’s a message that’ll hurt you:
The reason why they’re hurting you by leaving is because they’re taking themselves out of the socio-political equation before - in worse than Soviet Afghanistan - Taliban take out you .

Or we just wind up fighting a war forever. Which I've heard isn't great for the preservation of civil liberties.

When the US was founded, almost everybody living here was Christian, including most of the elites who ended up being called the "founding fathers". I'm not sure why you think that them pushing an "anti-religious angle" was even a remote possibility.
If it takes a whole nation dead, to protect one queer person, the price of their own deaths is upon them.
Uh, you do realize that's genocide, right? And that you're probably going to end up killing a huge number of other queer people in the process?
As much as I wish it was possible to force the world to be less shitty, I'm pretty sure this kind of approach would make things worse.
Confused?
