Used by whom?
Trump worship is only the latest example of the church’s deal with the devil of conservative politics.
I’ve known a few people who logicked their way out, but recently? Everyone who I know who’s stopped going, they left because the church “stopped being about God and about being a good person.”
And the people who logic their way out of believing? It used to be that they pretended to believe and still went. Not any more.

I expect for the pastors and the churches who supported Trump the same fate as for those who described men such as Hitler or Franco as “tools of the divine providence.”

Around 2016, I once read a theologian speaking about Evangelical support for MAGA, describing how, decades after the Civil Rights Movement, local churches who used to support or be neutral about segregation having problems getting new Black members; parents told their children how this given pastor used to describe Jim Crow as divinely ordinated.

Even if that’s true, the same person shouldn’t be used for both of those things. Maybe let’s have a little, uh, what’s the word….separation between those two things? That sounds like a good idea, I bet someone wrote that a long time ago….
